My "old" desctop pc is very slow and needs ages on start up.
So on solution is to upgrade the hd to a modern ssd hd.

I bought on today.
SanDisck SSD Plus 1 TB.
Now I have to ways to go.
1. I migrate my old had to the new on and just clone everything on it to the SSD.
2. I start a very new operating system and use Linux in the future.

I need a little help.
The guy in the electronic shop was talking lots of confusing things to me about what I have to take care about while cloning my system.
I smiled friendly and left quick, thought best help I could get is of course here on KVR.

So, how do I make this cloning of my old had stuff on the new hd right?
May be someone can give me a stepp by stepp way to handle this.

Or, how to install a linux system on the new hd and make my old computer boot from the new ssd.

You could put the SSD in a usb case, and safely install linux there, then
1. clone the other system,
2. back up the important parts
3. If happy with linux, install a different linux over the old system,
keep one system stable for recording, and use the alternate to test new things, and for storage.

Lots of cloning options, clonezilla is in many linux repositories. Give google

'clonezilla youtube' and many videos are there to help

If I would download the installation pack for the linux distribution you told me and connect both hds in my computer, it would be possible to install the linux from the old hd to the new on?

If yes, do I have to format the new SSD somehow?

Hi. This might be a safe efficient route. Find and use the install media of your
old system (or get it's current newest version) and install that to the new SSD, keeping your same username and passwords. You'll be prompted for formatting during the installation. When that new install is working, install the software that was needed on the old system, but not part of the default new installation. Then copy over the desired data from the old to the new system.

Once happy with the results, the old drive can be used as desired. Below are some useful links
