2 Questions...On Tassman 4 and Mu-Lab and also Reaktor.

I have some questions for you all...
I spent some money quite recently on Mu-Lab, Tassman 4 (Physical Modeling Software) and Reaktor 6.
I have some questions about these softwares.
Question 1:
How do I get Mu-Lab to communicate with Tassman?
-I am using Spring Beats MIDI patcher/software glue.
I have managed to get a very old version of Computer Music Muzys to communicate with Tassman 4, but for some strange reason Tassman 4 doesn't seem to recognize Mu-Lab.
I would like to get Mu-Lab to trigger Tassman 4, and to record sounds fro Tassman 4.
Question 2:
How do I automate synthesizer parameters within Reaktor 6?
Is there a feature in Reaktor which allows this?
I do know that Audio-Mulch allows you to automate VSTs in it, so perhaps I have to export the synthesizer project as a VST from Reaktor?
Or am I missing something?
Please realize that I am an absolute beginner to these softwares.
Any advice and help on this would be very much appreciated.
Kind regards,
Mr. SRU.

This Tassman 4?
https://www.applied-acoustics.com/tassman-4/faq/
If so then, I mean, it’s basically abandoned and sold “as-is” lol. “As-is” usually translates to “you’re on your own” as far as compatibility and functionality.
I stopped using Tassman 4 way back during the great 32-bit to 64-bit migration period because I didn’t wanna use the architecture bridge they wrapped their 32-bit software in (ancient history I know lol).
The only advice I have is to make sure Mu-Lab can use 32-bit plugins, or bridged plugins since AFAIK Tassman is 32-bit only.
Other than that, Godspeed and hope you didn’t spend too much on it lol.

OP hasnt stated whether they're on Mac or PC, but PC version of Tassman4 has been 64-bit for a decade.i need Help wrote: Fri Aug 19, 2022 5:16 am The only advice I have is to make sure Mu-Lab can use 32-bit plugins, or bridged plugins since AFAIK Tassman is 32-bit only.

MuLab is a host, Tassman is a plugin. You load plugins into hosts.ursellsarn wrote: Thu Aug 18, 2022 3:43 am I have some questions about these softwares.
Question 1:

Never heard of it.-I am using Spring Beats MIDI patcher/software glue.
Define 'communicate with' and 'recognise'I have managed to get a very old version of Computer Music Muzys to communicate with Tassman 4, but for some strange reason Tassman 4 doesn't seem to recognize Mu-Lab.
Load Tassman into MuLab.I would like to get Mu-Lab to trigger Tassman 4, and to record sounds fro Tassman 4.
Because Reaktor is a modular plugin that reconfigures itself for each ensemble you load into it, there isnt a consistent set of things that can be automated from one ensemble to another, and that's not something that is handled well by the mechanisms for plugins.Question 2:
How do I automate synthesizer parameters within Reaktor 6?
So you'll probably have to set up MIDI CCs; Google will help you.
Reaktor is the VST, it doesnt create themI do know that Audio-Mulch allows you to automate VSTs in it, so perhaps I have to export the synthesizer project as a VST from Reaktor?

True, my mind defaults to Mac since that’s what I use. Guess knowing what platform OP is on would help.

All of these applications can be run as 'stand-alone' which means just opening each of the software individually. It sounds like you're doing this.
What we would recommend is to choose a 'host' application to load all your noise-making/effecting programs into. Mu-Labs and AudioMulch are hosts, so you open either of those first and then load the other software as plugins. Tassman and Reaktor can both be loaded as Plugins.
Mu-Labs and AudioMulch are both DAWs (Digital Audio Workstations), and use MIDI to talk to the plugins. MIDI can be sent from a keyboard, sequencers within the DAW, or other plugins. The plugin hosts you've chosen are modular. This means you can connect virtual MIDI or audio cables from source to target however you want. It might be worth spending some time looking at tutorials for the plugin host you choose so you know you're comfortable selecting/moving/grouping/connecting the things you want to manage.
Tassman and Reaktor are also modular by design, and this can make it difficult to for the developers to create a way to automate the parameters easily consistently. Automation can usually send control information over the hosts' regular method of using the plugins 'exposed parameters' and/or MIDI CC. You can assign specific MIDI ControlChange (CC) values to particular parameters in Tassman and Reaktor but they will only exist for the modular instrument or effect you made or loaded.
You've entered a complex little world of audio software and it can take a while to work out how you want to get the best out of it. In your position I would make sure I understood the host/plugin concept first (loading plugins in to Mu-Lab or AudioMulch) and seeing what you come up with.

The next most obvious question(s) are going to be about Tassman 4 and Reaktor 6 as VST plugins.
I mean, I did not know (initially at least until some nice, kind people of the KVR forum informed me) that these were actually VST plugins.
I just tired getting them working in AudioMulch 2 and it did not recognize them, and I would really like to get them working in Audio-Mulch, or MuLab.
Can some one please help me, and maybe even E-Mail me privately?
(I have a feeling this is going to get quite complicated).
Mr. S R U.

When you install them, Tassman and Reaktor can be installed as standalone applications and/or plugins. There might be different 'flavor' of plugin you can install, but for Mulab and Audiomulch, you want VST.
However, there are 64-bit VST plugins and 32-bit VST plugins, and there can be 32-bit versions of VST plugin hosts and 64-bit versions of VST plugin hosts.
(A DAW is the most common type of plugin host ; MuLab and Audiomulch are both plugin hosts)
For some plugin hosts, they can use both 64-bit and 32-bit plugins.
For the rest you must match 64-bit host with 64-bit plugins, 32-bit hosts with 32-bit plugins.
Note that
MuLab comes in 64-bit or 32-bit host version and that must match the plugin version
Audiomulch is only a 32-bit host and that must match the plugin version
Reaktor 6 might (I cant remember) only be available as a 64-bit plugin
Tassman comes as either a 64-bit or 32-bit plugin
So your first step is to make sure that you've installed the appropriate plugin versions for your installed host versions.
That may require you to go back and reinstall some of these things. When you do so, the installers should let you know where these things are being installed. Take note of that information for the plugins, you may need it.

Great news!
It looks like I figured out how to input the Tassman 4 VST into Mu-Lab, and to get the VST synth and VST effect working well..
Wow!
Am I glad that is out of the way.
Anyway, tomorrow, I will install Cubase 12 Artist's edition and I will attempt to get Reaktor 6 working in it as a VST.
(You see, I brought Cubase 12 artist's edition also).
Any advice would be appreciated.
Kind regards,
Mr. SRU.

why would you use a different host for Reaktor ?

I wish to experiment with a range of host programs, -both Mu-Lab 9 AND Cubase artist 12...
Ultimately I wish to:
1.Get Mu-Lab 9 to import Tassman, and Reaktor 6 as VSTs, and then to import audio files into Tassman 4 and Reaktor 6 (inside Mu-Lab 9), and to play these through an automated filter, and also an automated effects unit (such as reverb) and to alter these with an LFO, and to export the sound thus made into an output audio file whilst automating the parameters of these filter/effect/LFO,
2.Get Cubase 12 artist's edition to import Tassman, and Reaktor 6 as VSTs, and then to import audio files into the Tassman 4 VST and Reaktor 6 VST (inside Cubase artist 12) , and to play these through an automated filter, and also an automated effects unit (such as reverb) and to alter these with an LFO, and to export the sound thus made into an output audio file whilst automating the parameters of these filter/effect/LFO,
3.Get Mu-Lab 9 and Cubase 12 (Artist's edition) BOTH to import the Garritan personal orchestra as a VST and to play it, and to record sound from the GPO.
And remember, -applied knowledge is power...
Thanks,
Mr. S R U.

well, that wasnt actually obvious, you quite clearly specified different hosts for different plugins.ursellsarn wrote: Sat Sep 03, 2022 9:55 am I wish to experiment with a range of host programs, -both Mu-Lab 9 AND Cubase artist 12...
I would suggest you stick to one host until you have more experience and understanding.
(I would also say the same regarding your other thread, the request for assistance with programming; its only been a few months since you were asking about implementing your ideas in Mathematica, now you're asking for assistance implementing them in three different programming languages.)
TBH, that feels somewhat condescending coming from someone who needs help with absolute basics. And remember, -applied knowledge is power...
Perhaps you could consider starting by accumulating basic knowledge one specific way until you understand that, rather than asking other people to help you with every new way you come up with. You do seem to be accumulating potential ideas more than actual knowledge of how to achieve any of them.
