Hey,

Tips on noise cancelling closed producing headphones for public usage like a cafe? Max 300 EUR.

Sonarworks has EQ profiles for the Bose QuietComfort 25, 35, 35 II as well as the Sony WH-1000XM2, M3 and M4. I had a short interaction with them once and back then they suggested the Sony. I have a pair of the Sony WH-1000XM4. They are great but I get hot ears when I use them.

I have had decent results with a pair of Plantronics (now Poly) 5200 over ear headphones. They are good when on the road, as they also are a communication headset. They have built in ANC - not super powerful ANC that affects audio quality - but something that will work in a cafe. Comfortable for long hours, too. They also work in a completely passive (no battery power) mode and sound good that way - reasonably flat.

Yep, I have the Sony WH-1000XM2 and via bluetooth with Sonarworks it's possible to mix accurately. Without Sonarworks the frequency response is way too boomy.
Every day takes figuring out all over again how to f#ckin’ live.

I'd probably use my Etymotic ER4's in such situations.
ANC works better for lower frequencies and static sounds, like the rumble of an aircraft engine. If used in a café, it would sound more like a high-pass filter, you'd still hear everything around you.
Take a single oscillator, producing a drone. Send it to the wave shaper, altering the tone.
This can be a triangle, Sawtooth or a square. Modulate the pulse width, nobody will care

I never had a lot of joy with noise cancelling headphones, always leaking to some extent. If I were commuting now, haven’t done it for a decade thankfully, I’d probably take my home studio Beyer 770’s and a portable headphone amp like my FiiO - that combo would come in under €200.

I’d have loved to use in-ears, but not only did I not get a good comfortable fit I seem to have acquired headphone killing earwax from Terrigen Mist exposure.

The only real downside to the 770s is they’re not amazing with deep bass stuff and also now I have to wear glasses to read they’re hard to use with them so generally have to record vocals with my nose pushed close to a monitor like a Victorian child at the window who was sent to their room with no supper for playing with the shoeless children.

Yeah they’re supposed to be an upgrade on the Beyer 770’s I have.

DO NOT MIX WITH NOISE-CANCELLING HEADPHONES. You find a pair of noise-cancelling headphones with a good, flat frequency response because they ar eall designed to sound good, not to be accurate. If the cafe you go to is noisy, find a quiter one and use full-size, over-ear cans that naturally block the noise from outside.
