I wonder what Dark side of the moon would have sounded like if they had the xils 4 instead of the suitcase ems synthi. The album would have never got finished because they would be still in the studio noodling. Fantastic synth fascinating history surrounding EMS the Xils 4 what should have been. It was a crying shame what happened to there studio the most advanced in the world at the time that was privately owned. Swapped a diamond tiara for one of the first commercially available computers to make music how cool is that. To end up in a cellar that was flooded. No-one wanted it. Kinda the story of British industry over last few decades great ideas with no backup. How do you know you are living in a dictatorship dictators hate art and music because it promotes free expression and free thought. They hate that especially companies like EMS the unknown scares the pants off them. They cannot control what they don't understand EMS falls into that category. Instead of the government supporting them. They gave millions to that moron Clive Sinclair for shit products like the C5 and the ZX81. Which worked on the same chip as the prophet 5 only thing u got was bleeps and bloops.

I cannot fathom the answer to this.
I am having difficulty controlling the pitch of the oscillators. The outer ring seems to only move in two octave steps despite the dial show single octaves.
When the dial says 0, the hover display says +1. Then turn the dial to +1 and the hover display jumps to +3 and the sound jumps 2 octaves as well.
Is it something I am not doing right or a setup problem?

I agree that the popup value are a bit confusing regarding the range.Rod Staples wrote: Sat Aug 27, 2022 9:02 am I am having difficulty controlling the pitch of the oscillators. The outer ring seems to only move in two octave steps despite the dial show single octaves.

The octave number is related on the C3 range. I mean that C4 range (the octave where C4 belongs) is displayed "+1", C6 is displayed "+3", C2 is displayed "-1"
We could change these popup display, though.
So the outer ring set the range every two octave (I also agree, that the display on the graphic must be changed too).
The internal knob set the pitch from -12 semi-tone to +12 semi-tone.
By pressing the ALT key, and the tune is snapped to semi-tones.
Right click for a fine tuning.
Oscillator 3 range is 4 octave lower than the two others.
The switch below the pitch double knob allows you to have a full range (from 0 to 18kHz) on the pitch, without having to set the range (could be useful for some FX preset or performance with a midi controller).
With the VST3 plug-in, this switch didn’t work correctly. This has just been fixed and uploaded.
Hope that helps
Best regards

There's a sale on a bunch of the Xils products on the Xilslab website and even better discount on JRR. Even though this synth can be a bit confusing, I would still pick it first because of the excellent sound and wide range of timbres it produces. No brainer imo.

I recently got XILs 4 and loving it - I cannot believe how I missed noticing this fantastic synth for 10 years. I am, however, having an issue with starred presets. I am using the VST3 1.6.20 version in Win11.
Whenever I mark/star patches in the browser as favourites, it seems that the starred patches are stored for that session. I can filter with no issues all starred patches. All good so far. However, later whenever I start a new project open XILs4 and filter for starred presets, I can only see patches that I have myself made/saved; all the factory patches that I have previously starred are back to their normal "unstarred" state. This is frustrating because I need to, again, select the patches that I want to work with. I now know that the workaround is to star and save the patches that I like but it can be quite time consuming.
I know that this behaviour is limited to XILs4 as with PolyKB and PolyM, both the factory and self-made starred patches remain starred whenever I open a new session.
Any ideas? Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong?

Thanks for this report and your kind comments (much appreciated !)
I'll check that and fix it asap (I guess we'd missed something there).
Maybe you can contact us directly on our contact email, this could be easier for exchanging ((in case I can't reproduce it and need more information from you).

Great sale going on right now, anyone which synths you guys would recommend as a first XILS synth? That's all the info I'm giving. Just give me what you got.
