I am really curious what part of making music people like the most overall. I am not even sure for myself. I know I don't really enjoy programming synths like a lot of people here do. So making the sounds would be low on my list. I somewhat enjoy the mixing part of making a song. Anyhow what part of making music or a song do you enjoy the most?

I mostly collab with singers who write the lyrics and sometimes the melodies, so my favorite part is probably when we record and I finally get to hear their parts. That’s when my little WIP bed track gets some flesh on its bones and I have something more complete with a vision toward completing the song. It’s also just really cool to hear how they’ve interpreted the musical ideas I send them, since I rarely give them any limitations. Sometimes I’ll suggest that the idea was inspired by another song or certain artist or genre, but that’s just to give them some inspo to use if they want. The ideas I send them are blank slates that they’re free to use however they want and I usually don’t have any idea what they’ve come up with until I hit that little red record button.

Working solo for many years now, I really miss this.

Closest I get is happy accidents in synth programing, arrangement or mixing. This would still be my favorite part. Other than simply playing instruments.

Yep! I'm not sure I could pick out a favorite part.

I do know that playing other peoples' music isn't my favorite thing, but it can be fun too sometimes. More satisfying to create my own sounds and music though.

After discovering or choosing a main sound, and playing it for a while, finding a great second sound or a great effect is actually the rewarding part that insures something is now actually in the making. Getting lucky when looking for cover art is also surprisingly delightful, a bit like gift-wrapping a special present for a loved one.

Finding a no-brainer price on something that's been wanted/needed for a long while kinda pre-dates the other possibilities. Figuring out how to do something in the above scenarios is like a successful attempt at soldering. :hyper: It's all too much fun.
Cheers

Starting a new piece of music. That usually manages to flush out the lingering earworm components from the previous one.

I realized for myself a lot of it seems like work to me. But I love playing something back once I complete it. So I guess that would be my favorite part. I do enjoy the process but it's not all fun for me sadly.

If you don't like making sounds or mixing, you could use the sounds in Maschine packs. Just ditch the notes and make your own using sounds that already work well together and are mixed.

Personally, I like recording guitar and bass, as well as basking in the warmth of good pads.

At some point in the near future I intend to get back into mixing as it's long been my favourite aspect of audio production.
