Rust - Motor EQ is a VST2, VST3, AAX, AU Acqua plug-in that faithfully replicates the sound of an ultra-rare, all-analog, passive, seven-band fixed EQ considered today as the ‘Holy Grail’ of classic equalizers.

Used in countless number one hits, this EQ has become legendary and today is one of the rarest pieces of audio gear ever built.
With Rust, you get the unmistakable tone and warmth of the legendary analog hardware passive equalizer used by Motown engineers.

This plug-in recreates the same specs of the original gear; with the same proportional Q, which means that there is no adjustable Q control: so small cuts or boosts have a very broad Q, and greater cuts or boosts have a narrower one. You can adjust the gain of each fixed frequency (from -8dB to +8dB) according to your needs.

As in the original machine, also in Rust you will find an interesting peculiarity: the interdependence between bands.

The plug-in is in fact characterised by the interaction of adjacent bands. Namely, the gain of any band is influenced by the two nearest bands: whenever both of them are set at their maximum value, then the gain of the central band is slightly reduced.

Rust includes 7 different highly musical EQ bands with fixed frequencies and variable gain (from -8dB to +8dB): 50Hz, 130Hz, 320Hz, 800Hz, 2.000Hz, 5.000Hz, and 12.500Hz and is capable of delivering full tones and a warm, punchy sound that made this equalizer a classic.

We introduced additional features such as L-R/MID/SIDE, Preamp, and EQ activation switches to make Rust even more versatile.

Main features

• L-R/MID/SIDE switch.
• 4x oversampling to improve the quality of the preamp.
• Input trim to increase the harmonic distortion.
• Over 40 presets crafted by renowned sound engineers.
• ZL (zero-latency) version suitable for tracking.
• Resizable interface*

*Choose between 3 magnification values (1x - 1.5x - 2x) from the top right ▼SIZE drop-down menu.
Once the desired size has been selected, the plugin must be removed and re-loaded to apply the changes. This action affects the currently selected plugin. New instances of the same plugin will open with this magnification.

A bit of history…

In addition to creating the hits of the likes of Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Diana Ross, the Jackson 5, and many others, the Motown Records label created the true Soul and R’n’B sound. The beating heart of the equipment was undoubtedly the Equaliser that was sampled for this new Acqua plugin.
Built in the 1960s by Motown engineers to improve the sound of their productions, it contributed significantly to ushering in a new era of music.

Nice to finally see the Motor City 'Motown' EQ joining the Acqua family.

Looks interesting. I never understood the desire to hype the motown connection to these kinds of products - who here is producing motown? Seems highly irrelevant. But I can understand how it's seductive content for a marketing person, despite being largely irrelevant, to me at least. Motown... great. Excited to try and likely buy. Thanks AA.

No it isnt. It might also be a bit Nostalgic, but its just an awesome EQ, maybe similar to the original Pultec and that doesnt force anyone to produce 60s Soul or Funk Music with it. Here the Hardware Replica.

I am most certainly not at all and yet I find a lot of both their sound and arrangement aesthetics highly desirable and relevant (especially today, I hasten to add, where I find a lot of stuff far too sterile and clinical sounding)... and as such I think yoru question really makes very little sense - these are colours you can add to your own palette to come up with your very own paintings, so to speak - I would think that should be fairly obvious to anyone producing music, no?
