I see alot of people posting their music on this forum and im eager to send some of my shit up the drainpipe, only one question.. Do most and or all of you who post your music also copyright it before you do? I mean, if not, could the upload timestamp hold up in court if you ever got ripped after posting?

Im definatly eager to post, but if my intellectual property is only defended by the magnanimous karma of the collective, then i might sit this one out.

you're entitled to copywrite as soon as your work is in a "fixed" medium of any sort. as far as music goes that could mean simply writing down the sheet music or recording it to anything that will save it, whether that be cd, cassette, 8 track, or mp3. and yes, the timestamp on your posts should be sufficient enough proof that you created it first. it wouldn't hurt to actually send in the paperwork and all for the "official" copywrite, but I know personally I don't have that kind of money and don't think anything I've done so far is all that great anyway. not yet at least... but either way you shouldn't have to worry, and if you are, the quicker you share the sooner you have proof. that's why some people mail their demos to themselves, just for the postmark.
