75% of it, too long to list.
Why? Because I don't use it. Sooooooooo much bloat in DAWs IMO.

Post

One person’s bloat is another person’s must-have, so I wouldn’t remove anything. Most DAWs are configurable enough in terms of choosing what you install, or customizing the functions that are visible on the GUI, keyboard shortcuts, etc. that bloat doesn’t have to be a distraction.

restrictions on tempo - at the moment i think all the daws lock the tempo of each track to each other

Post

Example of a song with different tempos within a song for different instruments??
I wonder what happens if I press this button...

Post

A lot of compositions tagged 'experimental' use differing tempos simultaneously, Steve Reichs pieces with parts phasing against each other, Conlon Nancarrows player pianos playing at different speeds etc. I think Zappa used the technique in some of his orchestral stuff, sure others did too (Charles Ives? can't remember, would have to google it).

If you wanted to use these techniques in a DAW then you'd need to able to specify different tempos per part.

Post

All you'd have to do is turn off the grid and draw/play stuff in at any tempo you like. Or do it all in strict tempo and then time-stretch some parts. I think it would be very easy to do.

I'd get rid of all the other users, then it could be developed specifically for my needs. One big thing I find absolutely no use for, to the extent that I don't even understand how it ever came to be, is the track inspector. What a useless waste of screen real estate that thing is. I'd be fine without the Browser, too.

If referring to S1, I think the Track Inspector is one of the most innovative things about the program. The browser is likewise an essential part of not just S1 but any DAW, even back to the 1990s.

You could use Reaper instead and build your own DAW to your needs.

But it doesn't do anything, except take up screen real estate. It just dupicates functionality. I have literally never used it in S1. I did use it a bit in Cubase because there were one or two things you could only do there but I don't see anything in S1's that isn't available somewhere else.

And yet I managed perfectly well for more than 20 years in Orion without one, despite ahving use Fruityloops browser a lot before Orion. Go figure.

Why would I do that? I have shit to do and I don't want to have to spend my time f**king about with my host. Studio One suits me fine, it's easy to ignore all the shit I don't need and get on with what I'm doing. But I'd be much happier if it relied less on the browser, which forces me to drag shit from one side of the screen to the other, where a right-click menu like Orion's would let me keep my focus where I'm working. You get one in the mixer, for adding effects, but not for adding instruments to an instrument track.

There are things in the Inspector that you won't find anywhere else, such as the Event FX feature / functionality, among many other things. I don't have time to go into them because it's late now.
If you don't explore the program, you won't learn what it can do.

Why would I explore something that does everything I need it to do already? What do you think I am likely to discover? I just wasted 5 minutes looking up Event FX, to discover they are of no use to me. So that's another thing they can get rid of.
