I’m considering ditching all my classic emulations for one maybe two original design virtual analogue VSTs. I have RP BIT, NI Super-8 and AAS VA3 which I am testing to assess their versatility and if I’ll miss the emulations. What others do you suggest I should explore?

EDIT: Forgot, I have Diva as well.

I really like Spire. Very easy to use which makes it good for creative purposes. Recently just discovered XILS-Labs though and really like what theyre doing. Their stuff just sounds phenomenal.

There are very few original (if any) VA, as they kinds all follow the old hardware paradigm. So while they may not be emulations, they are all kinda same old same old.

It really depends on what you want....flexibility, modulations, simplicity, complexity....

With most stuff, you can always ignore a lot of stuff and go back to basics and treat it as an old fashioned subtractive VA if you wish....

It's really down to personal choice....any reason you are thinking of ditching your emus?

To me the most underrated VA on the market that is not a direct emulation is DUNE 3. It has a sweetness and hi def quality that I find very pleasing and is capable of monster patches and very simple ones as well.

As always try the demo to decide for yourself. :tu:

Underrated? Surely not around here. ;)

TAL-Mod, for sure.

I am finding plug-in folder clutter and too much choice distracting.

As do the emulations, but they can have their own unique sonic character which could make the do it all VA hard to find.

It has the same loyal following as Spire.

I think DUNE 3 is looked at more as a Wavetable synth by the general public at KVR. Its VA capability is often over looked or rarely discussed.

At any rate "VA" can mean many things. Lush Pads or the Bleeps and Bloops of Modular and so on.....

Serum and Pigments

Post

Serum, Dune 3, Hive, Viper, Vital, Surge.

Last 2 are free

It would have to be a synth that covers a lot of different synthesis types. Pigments is high on that list. Dune 3 is a great sounding synth too, needs granular!!

Thorn is pretty dope. Very nice layout, mostly everything at a glance. Great sounding filters, drag and drop modulation, glitch sequencer, etc.

And it's regulary on sale as well.
