Wireless Midi (Mac <-> iPad) - why does it suck so much?

I've set up a wireless MIDI connection between my brand new mac studio and my iPad, using AUM as the plugin host. It seems to be the only host app that seems to have no difficulties routing the right inputs and outputs to their respective destinations.

I've started a "connection" on my mac via the Audio-Midi Setup tool and everything is recognized. The midi is sent via Cubase to the Networked port and my iPad receives it.

So far so good.

I am getting a lot of skipped notes however and some notes are played either too long or too short, which means the connection is not optimal.

How can I improve this?

Thankful for any suggestions.
