My thoughts exactly haha. I appreciate being given examples of plugins that do what I have in mind so I can check them out, but vurt's detailing of a reverb concept was more what I was looking for, that was spot on! I'll have to test some of the plugins mentioned, but sadly I can't try them all let alone get out of them quite whatever was meant by whoever suggested them.

Also I'm curious not just about the possibilities of plugins but how those possibilities have been successfully used, like imagine a reverb plugin that gives you control over the spectral colour, what kind of colour gives interesting results with what material? I guess I can find out with some research though, my research into shimmer reverb pedals gave me all the good examples I needed about that particular approach.

your question really asked for a list rather than explanatory material wrt reverb.

That's the problem with asking a question on the Internet, you never know how people are going to interpret it in a way you didn't intend, so then you have to strive to correct course. What I had in mind when asking for "examples" wasn't a list of products (although mentioning products doesn't hurt at all), it was examples. What does that mean? I'm not sure, more something like specific usages, vurt's answer was a good example. You could rightly say I should have been more specific, but that's always the issue when asking such questions on the Internet, you don't know ahead of time what you should really focus on specifying. I'm not complaining through, I can use the answers provided and I'm glad to know which plugins to look into, it's just that I could use more specifics about what interesting effects can be done with them since realistically I probably can't test them all and find out what they can do that's interesting. But again, I'll manage.

well another one that might be of values is 2caudio Kaleidoscope. Think of it as up to 512 physically modelled resonators with tremendous control over feedback, damping, amplitude and pan, and tuning - mostly available for each resonator individually. I have used it to do reverb things like model a space housing a large pipe organ where the pipes resonate to a piano playing in the same space.

Lately, I have been in love with Tai Chi Reverb

Don't use a dedicated reverb. Instead use Valhalla Übermod or Delay and of course Super Massive. With high diffusion settings you get the most colored, modulated, washy, spaced out reverbs you can imagine.

Eventide makes some interesting reverbs that sound like they might fit the bill. Blackhole, Shimmer and Mangled. All very cool.

It has hi-cut and lo-cut filters, tempo-sync, a mix control, mix lock and an adjustable envelope ...
very interesting at the area of tempo synced reverbs, ...very flexible and intuitive plugin at this peculiar focus !

on another ballpark, here is examples in where convolution engines are involved to recreate something in between reverberations and diatonic resonances, that are usually created with comb filters

the 3rd example might be more talking because based on a single improvisation and one a single one of these convoluted resonances

bear in mind : ONE area of interest among others, as different kind of reverbs
