How could this be resolved without growing your monitor or limiting the number of plugins?
Surely there must be consensus by now...

I have Waveform 11 installed. Do I have to uninstall it before I install Waveform 12 ?

Post

No they can both be installed along side each other.

So if I uninstall 11 will my projects and setup still be available for 12. Can I migrate or transfer easily my settings, like my already scanned vst plugin folders into 12? And projects too?

Post

Unless you're really short on disk space, it's good to keep both for quite a while--just in case you have a plugin that works great in W11 but not W12, you can always roll back. Remember to keep backup copies of previous projects!!! Opening an old project in W12 will overwrite the old format, making it incompatible to previous versions.

I keep versions all the way back to T6...just in case!

Waveform will easily transfer your old settings, plugins, presets, templates, etc., over to the new version with no intervention needed on your part. It's super painless...unless, of course, you don't back up your old projects first. Hint: back up your old projects first. Just. In. Case.

I recently updated from Waveform 11 free to Waveform 12.
Someone else posted a similar problem, but I never saw a resolution --

I'm using a Lynx Aurora (n) with a Thunderbolt 3 connection to my Mac Mini (late 2018) running Monterey. Waveform absolutely does not see the 16 input channels. I mean - it sees them and shows them as available, but no audio ever comes in on any of them. If I go into settings, I don't see anything on the activity bar, but the "Test" button does generate tones on the outputs.

weirdly, an old version of Tracktion I have running here works perfectly using the same configuration.

I guess the next step is to go back to 11 to see what it does with the audio (I was using it mainly for MIDI and did the switch to the Aurora relatively recently, so I need to revisit 11 more carefully)

When you check back with v11, check to see which audio drivers are selected, just to be sure. v12 should have kept your settings the same, but this just sounds driver-ish to me.

Yeah, well 11 doesn't see it either. On the Mac you don't tend to have to select drivers and such like Windows (long time sw dev here). Tracktion 5 works just fine which makes it very puzzling.

I can drop a loop/sample into Waveform and it plays fine, so half of the equation is working. Just for some reason Waveform is not seeing the TB inputs.

I'm betting there is a lot to look at on the Settings -> Audio Devices page. It could be something as simple as having the Record Mode for the inputs set to "Don't make recordings from this device".

I hate Waveform with a passion. It's so weird in so many frustrating ways.
If it wasn't for Novum Tracktion would, in my book, be a no-go... also f-em which is such a CPU hog.... but... still nice nonetheless

I would also think it's something local to my config otherwise lots of folks would be complaining right?

But - I scanned through all settings, pulled up all the actions for the track and there's nothing there that disables audio. I can see on the front of the Aurora that audio is hitting the TB inputs but the live input monitoring is never showing any signal.

One other thing (which just may be a difference between Tracktion and Waveform) is that in Tracktion, as soon as the active track is receiving audio, the bottom area changes to show the metering and input info. In Waveform, that never happens. It's like it doesn't recognize it as an audio track or something.

Very confused at this point since Tracktion 5 works perfectly every time.

I believe Waveform worked OK when I had the Weiss AFI-1 bringing audio in over FireWire (well FW converted to Thunderbolt/USB C via a cable) but I can't be 100% sure. I still have the Weiss around here (if anyone is looking to pick one up, contact me) and I guess I could wire it all back in and see what happens.

Make sure the Control Panel is open and select the input to show the input-related stuff. Or maybe that's what you're already doing but you use the word "track" instead of "input". It's so hard to go by descriptions instead of screenshots because people tend to be imprecise. I still don't really know what you mean by "Waveform is not seeing the TB inputs". At what stage does it fail? Sometimes it sounds like the inputs aren't available. Sometimes it sounds like they are and you add them to a track but no audio comes through. It's difficult to try to help you solve a problem when I don't really know what's wrong and, perhaps more importantly, where it's going wrong.

Agreed. Screen shots tomorrow. Engaged with non-music activities today.

All 16 Aurora inputs are enabled and available. The track shows the selected inputs (15, 16) in this case.
Aurora front panel showing activity on 15,16, but the mini meters in the input area of the track never show anything.

here's some screen shots. T5 from Tracktion5, W12 from Waveform 12.
kind of baffling. Sound (in System Preferences) shows audio coming in for the Aurora as well.
