NI seems pretty consistent through the years so I doubt it wouldn’t work if someone already did it before. I never took advantage of this and likely won’t this time either.

At the moment I’m only mildly interested in Kontakt 7, but obviously I don’t know what’s coming.

The only web references I can find, about a grace period, are from the NI forum last year.
IF they offer one they'll have qualifying dates for any upgrade. If they go beyond a registration date and ask for proof of purchase, and it's not within those dates, you're kompletely stuffed. Not worth the risk, IMO, until NI state clear written policies about any upgrade to 14.

They've never, ever done this.

Well, if someone's prepared to gamble on it, let's hope they don't start.. ;)

I have to say if you're on anything above regular Komplete (Ultimate / Collectors) NI's online upgrade offers (for the same Komplete level) have been pretty bloody miserable though. That's part of why I'm looking to ditch the bundle and just go with individual stuff. Only users those bundles seem to make sense to lately are Maschine users. But you tend to need the latest version for it to sell.. sooo..

Maschine+ seems to be getting a big sale at the moment. MASCHINE+ and Komplete Kontrol M32 for $899

X32 and 24C mixers, S88MK3, Live + PUSH 3, Osmose, RedShift 6, Pro3, S4, Tempera, Syntakt, Digitone, OP1-F, OPXY, TR-1000, Eurorack, TD27 Drums, Guitars, Basses, Amps and of course lots of pedals!

I hope there’s a refresh on the Komplete Kontrol line. I still need a proper controller after my CME UF80 bit the dust.

They’d have to come up with a whole new beurocratic system to change how they work. Given NI’s pace of innovation, I’m hopeful. :)

Actually that GAK upgrade price (at half price) for Collector’s Edition is pretty good - £189, and you’d get Kontakt 7, Ashlight, Sequis, 3 guitars, Lores, East Asia, Piano Colors, Stradivari Cello - I’d get some use out of most of those. A ton of other stuff too.

due to Komplete 13 sale right now I'm tempted to upgrade from Komplete 13 "regular" to Komplete 13 collector's edition.
but, when K 14 will come out, would I be able to upgrade from K13 Collectors to K14 "regular" ? or the only option will be K13 Collectors to K14 Collectors ?

Yeah, you can't drop a level, so the only way is up. But I think you're in a good position if there's a good deal, just don't register it til K14 is announced, then you'll get that for free.

Yes, that's the best price I've seen, and worth it if it gets you to Kontakt 7. It'd be nice if NI had equivalent digital offers themselves.. (Think the best I saw was £269 iirc)

NI direct (even with discounts) seems pricey if you own anything above regular Komplete and all you really want is one or two things.. in this case Kontakt 7.

Oh I didn’t think about registering idea, thanks.
Are the upgrade prices the same:
Standard old to standard new
Ultimate old to ultimate new
Collectors old to collectors new ?

So far yes. Hopefully the prices will continue to be the same.

You also need to watch out for the product shuffling between different models when the new version of Komplete is out, which might need you to retain both versions, even if you already have a base version and you could technically get rid of an update (e.g. you have K12U CE -> K13U CE Update -> K14U CE Update. While you can resell K13U CE Update since K14U CE Update will work with K12U CE, you need to make sure you don't lose any products in doing so.)

No for the bold part. But since you have Komplete 13 Standard, you can update to Komplete 14 Standard. You need to retain the base product for your updates/upgrades.

(In general, it's always best to have at least one Standard and one Ultimate version of Komplete for the best flexibility of updating/upgrading.

I personally have Komplete 8, Komplete 8 Ultimate and Komplete 12 Ultimate Collector's Edition. So, I have all the update/upgrade possibilities at hand and can choose one depending on content and budget. I will always retain these 3 as my "base" products.)

For anyone thinking of buying K13xx and registering late to get a free upgrade to K14, I'd be wary. We don't know if things will play out differently this year. They may do away with the whole komplete/U/CE format as quite a lot has changed in the NI landscape since 13.

Something like that may happen. But iZotope have carried motoring on, their recent upgrades have all fallen into line in the Soundwide era. And even if NI do shake things up, they will of course be offering upgrades from whatever people are currently on, so imo it's unlikely to change anything re upgrade paths.

I'm not saying there's no risk, there is. But imo realistically it's fairly low risk. And a boxed product can always be sold - it will still be worth something 2nd hand in the worst case scenario. I think I got my CE upgrade for around £140 a couple of months ago - the current sale upgrade price from NI is £449. So I'm sure I could get at least £100 for it if the worst came to it.
