So what’s the big gorilla of additive synths now?

I’ve long wanted to explore additive more, I think harmor was the best overall that I’ve tried but it’s still not on Mac right?
What’s the big gorilla in the block now for most versatile and easiest to use?

Big question first: do you expect it to do resynthesis? Harmor and that other one that's now mac-only are the only ones I can think of that do resynthesis. But if you want additive without that feature, I'd highly recommend Rob Papen Blade 2. The additive engine in Pigments 3 isn't too shabby either. That's not to say there aren't other good candidates - those two are the ones that come to mind.

Blade 2 doesn't strike me. If you turn off the FX, it sounds weak or dull compared to Loom II, Harmor, and Razor.dmbaer wrote: Thu Sep 01, 2022 7:52 pm Big question first: do you expect it to do resynthesis? When I think additive, Loom II is the first one that comes to mind, but I honestly haven't kept up with who the current competitors are. If you're on a Mac/Logic, Alchemy has a pretty impressive additive side as well.

Ok, I've tried Loom before. I might even own it. I have Razor. I was thinking of something purely additive that goes deep, but I guess there's nothing really new that I haven't heard about.

Perhaps you can wait for Madrona Labs Sumu. They promised that a public beta will be out soon, but I have heard nothing. It is an additive synth where each of the 64 partials has an ADSR envelope and FM operator. The LFO and chaos features can be individualized for the partials or groups of them, and the sound is processed through a Polymoog-inspired resonator.Aiynzahev wrote: Thu Sep 01, 2022 10:32 pm Ok, I've tried Loom before. For additive synth, there's nothing on the Mac that just totally does it for me. Alchemy is the best I've tried but that is Logic only.
It will be another year or whatever, but Zebra 3 looks to be solid for additive.

Maybe you could give Reason's Parsec 2 a look too, it's on 50% sale right now.

Yeah Parsec is good, I think I did some presets for it way back. It's still not what I was looking for, but it's OK. Actually I wish Virsyn would update their synths.J.Ruegg wrote: Fri Sep 02, 2022 1:43 am Maybe you could give Reason's Parsec 2 a look too, it's on 50% sale right now.
