I never understood why people who choose to make music on a computer (Windows, Mac, or otherwise) don't use keyboard shortcuts. Your OS has literally been hard coded with your qwerty keyboard with shortcuts for 4+ decades. IMHO, it's not difficult to remember a few proprietary key combos for your DAW. Makes life so much easier no matter what DAW you're in.

Two monitors is more real estate than most UW given same resolution. 3 is 2x the screen real estate of most of them.

And having multiple is great for other things like video editing, since you can put the video full screen on a secondary or tertiary monitor. Film scoring in a DAW, as well.

If you prefer high refresh rates the UW is going to be overpriced compared to 16:9 displays.

Beyond that, I don't like them cause competitive games often don't support them for fairness reasons :-P

I've got two 26" monitors that I use right now, and running them at their native 1920 x 1200p, a single UW will be about the same screen real-estate with an UW resolution of 3840 x 1080p. Losing 120 pixels vertically is a really small price to pay if you're into a single monitor setup but still want the use of dual displays. That said, one could always go with a UW that's 5120 x 1440 (Dell UltraSharp 49", I'm looking at you)!

Anyway, I don't game competitively so I am seriously considering going with a single UW in the future.

Reason DAW? Eh, still don't get how it's a cluttered mess. But I'm used to utilizing dual monitors, as well as F5/F6/F7. Pretty easy to jump into, actually.
This is the best workflow if you have one monitor setup (in my case). I don't like multi monitors setup. I prefer one big monitor instead, but anyway, jumping with shortcuts is really the best workflow with Reason. Just get used to it.

Waiting for M1 native support though to try it again. Although, I'm absolutely happy with Logic and I don't need another DAW, but maybe for the good times in the past sake :)
Using: Cubase Pro 15, Reason 13, Tascam US-4x4HR, MODX6, DM12D, LaunchKey 49, Yamaha guitar(Pacifica 612v) and bass (BB234) and some virtual instruments and synths.

When I use reason I put the rack on another display and rotate it 90 degrees :-P

Best way to use it, IMO.

Issue with UW is that its 1080p height. The win for using two displays is the other will be rotated, so its actually 1080x1920.

The orientation is like that of a smartphone (for reference). Instead of using the rack in landscape, you use it in portrait orientation.

So, it's more like 80% taller than the UW for rack navigation and use.

This is why you use two... So you can have optimized view of each component of the application.

An UW forces you to compromise.

And since the display is rotated, it will use up less desk space, as well.

Lastly, side-by-side isn't the only configuration that you can arrange monitors in. Mixer monitor can be on top of the sequencer monitor, for example.

1440 pixels is still quite a ways away from 1920, and you'd be paying an high premium just to get there. I would just use a UHD Television if I were getting something that big, anyways.

Do you even use dual monitors? There is literally no issue.

Bye.

And nice attempt at flipping the script. Everything you asked in your thinly veiled passive aggressive response has been answered in previous posts.

That served no purpose other than to troll.

You keep telling yourself that, sport. You’re the one that immediately jumped into an ad hominem.

Just never got used to it, I avoid reaching my keyboard except for writing :D Now that my laptop is on a stand it is even more uncomfortable to reach for it, so I do as much as I can with a mouse, even if it is slower.

Same here. I usually have my left hand on my MIDI keyboard (or guitar neck) and my right hand on my mouse.
To use a keyboard shortcut I have to stop using one of those, look down from my screen to my keyboard, reach a bit awkwardly to my keyboard to press the keys (some combinations need both hands), and then back to what I was doing.
A bit disruptive, and not terribly quick.

For the “pencil notes into the piano roll” crowd it might be a different story.

Eh, I hear you. I can also see the younger generation suffering from this same preference - most kids today aren't taught keyboard combo shortcuts for their computer's OS. Between touch screens and a mouse, I'd imagine it's a crap shoot.
