Yeah, it's kind of hard to talk about why Fulltone shut down without getting into Hyde Park territory due to all the politics around Mike Fuller and why people and companies began boycotting his products, which had to be a major factor. I personally think it should be fair game to discuss in this instance, but I'm fine with the KVR powers that be outside of Hink wanting to shut that down. This ain't my site to make rules for.

Mike can make money from licensing deals (both hardware and software), not to mention the $2 million profit he’ll make on the sale of the building. I’m a bit surprised he’s not selling the business outright but I suspect that’s a pride thing.

Probably in part from sort of putting his name in the company name (Fulltone/Fuller). Last thing you want is someone else owning your name, as has happened to Oberheim and others in the past. Word of advice: maybe don't put your name on your business in case your business ever gets sold.Uncle E wrote: Sat Sep 03, 2022 5:16 pm Mike can make money from licensing deals (both hardware and software), not to mention the $2 million profit he’ll make on the sale of the building. If the company does get sold, which I kind of hope it does, does that make it "ok" for people who were boycotting Fulltone gear to start buying them? Or is the brand forever going to be tainted for some? Probably the latter. At least for some folks. There's no denying they made cool sh*t and made it well.

sadly, we are going to lose some companies over the next year's, synths, pedals and other audio equipment is having issues with both parts and customers losing money with the economic situation.
that's going to effect both shops and manufacturing. sad times when you consider we were probably in the true golden age of gear, with top quality stuff being available for the majority rather than a chosen few.

I also think there's going to be a dramatic pullback in the gear market, not just because of any impending recession, but just as life continues to go back to normal and more money gets spent on vacations, restaurants, bars, movie theaters, etc. You know...like pre-Covid where there were far fewer people who were into music as a hobby. A good friend of mine who had sold off all his music gear years ago, just got back into it, and in the last two months has probably dropped close to 10k on gear (new guitars, new amps, every pedal under the sun, a Moog Matriarch, a Novation something or other, RME interface). Maybe more. I'm honestly shocked at how much he's acquired so quickly, but hey, good for him!vurt wrote: Sat Sep 03, 2022 6:05 pm sadly, we are going to lose some companies over the next year's, synths, pedals and other audio equipment is having issues with both parts and customers losing money with the economic situation.

I think the bottom is going to completely fall out of the second-hand gear market in a couple of years as a result of everyone who got into music recently and decide at some point all that gear isn't worth the space it's taking up for them. And when there's a ton of cheap secondhand gear, it's going to be all that much harder for companies to sell new gear. And that's going to be a problem for a lot of companies. Especially those that expanded heavily on the assumption the good times were never going to end.

I worked for a chain that had if not the largest one of the largest inventories of used music gear (Daddy's Junky Music), the amount of used gear that passed through place over it's years is staggering. They were an institution in New England and even had stores as far away as Syracuse NY...like so many other businesses they too blame the internet.

It's hard to run a brick and mortar business these days when your compettion has so much less overhead. Most of the ma & pa shops are gone and even the big boys are going down.Hink wrote: Sat Sep 03, 2022 8:47 pm I worked for a chain that had if not the largest one of the largest inventories of used music gear (Daddy's Junky Music), the amount of used gear that passed through place over it's years is staggering. Just picked up a Mooer Black Secret pedal and it sounds ~99.5% like my old Rat. Very sweet at modest settings and full on compressed insanity turning the dial up to 11
