Good lord that's horrible.

Technically excellent. I don't think she's miming (or if she is she is very good at it) but musically it's an abomination, a blizzard of hideousness. But to the point at hand - maybe a VI could be that horrific, most of it is regular chords, wildly overplaying single notes and whammy bar madness. That all feels potentially doable.

Unlike this. I'll leave these 4 seconds of audio here one more time. 2 chords, one transition. Anyone is welcome to try on a VI, but it has to be one pass. Capo is on the 5th fret, exceptionally easy to play on the guitar.

No-one has attempted it yet. Curious, that.

I’m sure she played it. Just not in one take or while shooting that video. Her physical performance and the music are separated by an uncanny valley.

I’ve never been able to get the file to play.

Hmm, the KVR embedded player seems to be busted with dropbox page links.

This is a direct link to the file and seems to work normally:

EDIT - For anyone up for the challenge of attempting this with a guitar VI (no multiple passes), here is what is played on the guitar. Capo is on the fifth fret, so based on top and bottom A, not E.

FIRST CHORD
A4
F#4
C#4
A3
D3
x

SECOND CHORD
A4
B4
F#4
D4
D3
x

So notes 2-4 slide up five frets, 1 and 5 remain open. Note - string 2 starts lower than string 1, then slides above it.

Good luck, everyone. Apparently with at least one VI you can set open strings and you can get a slide effect so in theory it is possible, even though it would be horrible to play in practice with keyswitches on and off for the chords around them. The next chord in the song is a standard Emaj shape, all 6 strings - Amaj with the capo in other words - so it would require resetting those open strings.

Anyway, I'm curious to see if it's possible to even play those 2 chords first. Even if it is, and even if it actually sounds ok, it's virtually impossible anyone would spontaneously come up with it. Writing on a guitar is based around what patterns are playable on those six strings, which produces dramatically different results to writing on a keyboard.

I know - discussing the subject around the thread topic isn’t very KVR, is it?

Not that, it definitely got weirder than "discussing the thread around the subject topic" - an emotional rollercoaster!

Too many pointy bits for me, but I'm more traditional with my plectrum (plectra?)

Well, it's interesting anyway. And let's hope the thing that this thread is about comes to fruition - the sooner the better. Good products take time I know but 6 years since the basses came out so there has been plenty of time. Bring something new to the table. We are tired of canned guitar sounds.

Lulz. Non canned, but honestly I got "better" results from a bloody 2004 plugin. They are barely passable for a realistic guitar tone. The playability is there but the tone sucks to my ears, and mine aren't even that good these days. Surely that's supposed to sound like a guitar, but it feels like some Karplus-strong emulation that isn't particularly fine tuned to sound really realistic. I think that shows its weakeness.

Sure, strum is nice for some things, but not my cup of tea because it just sounds too synthy.

There is a definite lack of realism, and I think MODO will address this with no problems. .
