Correct! You haven't reached that age yet!
Using: Cubase Pro 15, Reason 13, Tascam US-4x4HR, MODX6, DM12D, LaunchKey 49, Yamaha guitar(Pacifica 612v) and bass (BB234) and some virtual instruments and synths.

Currently, a typical song of mine consists of:
8 drum tracks
3 percussion
2 basses
6 guitars
6 vocals
3 organs
4 mellotrons
6 brass
12+ groups
I find it easier to add a track, rather than faff about with automation.

I started with Live 5 Lite, so yeah. why not?
(I upgraded pretty quick) ;)

I often do too...

just seen

( ps. personally I would pick S1v5 from splice https://splice.com/daws/38892279-studio ... y-presonus and would buy a PreSonus Faderport 8 DAW controller at the beginning instead of the full price of the DAW )

Intro version of Live or 16-track Bitwig are not challenging for me as I can work comfortably with them. The 8-track Bitwig is challenging because of the limitation of two Vsti tracks. The drums samples in Bitwig are not that good IMO, so that one track taken. However, Polysynth is really a nice VA synth. FM4 is good also, so they can be used, but they can't make aggressive sounds like Vital or Phase Plant.

Anyway, I was surprised by the updates to the 16-track Bitwig! Exporting wave files are not limited to 16-bit but there are 24bit and 32bit :tu: Also they added Hardware Instrument, so I can add my hardware synths as one track instead of two. I think they added several midi effects as well. It was very well worth the $79 upgrade price 👌

I might downgrade my S1 Pro and Cubase Pro versions as well. Both S1 Artist and Cubase Elements/Artist are more than enough for me. I even might go to Cubase AI, so I don't buy anything, just downgrading :)

There are a ton of other free DAWs that deliver much more…

I don't want much more! I want much less, but to a point that I don't feel in a need for a feature only exists in the full/Pro version.

Anyway, it seems Bitwig team are listening or they are figuring out themselves :) They adjusted the shortcuts for the cue markers, so now I can assign a shortcut for insert, go next and go previous cue marker :tu: These small things are a big help in the navigation and I'm glad it is in the intro versions as well :)

Most bands, playing live, only have 3-6 musicians. If you have a drum rack/kit that only occupies one track, I'd think eight tracks for a single song could be enough. Sure, for "studio" work where you might want to bring in more instruments for little bits, etc., eight tracks could be a severe limitation. I watched a video that talked about easy ways to essentially double those eight tracks to 16, so there are workarounds to a degree.

Oh man, 16 tracks? That would be overkill! In my opinion, if your music does not fit in just one track you are doing it wrong! :D

Pretty easy to fit a whole song in one single Track in Live Lite, in pretty much the same way you use to make 16 fit in 8, you just repeat the same steps more times (like Racking and key-zoning Chains, putting samples in Drum Racks).

And you can even mix it in one single track, as each Chain in a Instrument Rack or Drum Rack can be "unfolded" in Session View to expose mixer sliders similar to those in the Tracks.

It is not "optimal" compared to having unlimited tracks, of course. Would be more an exercise than anything.

I'm sure I could manage, but Cakewalk by Bandlab is much more capable and free, so there's really no reason to use anything else in some hypothetical scenario where I can't use any paid DAW.
Take a single oscillator, producing a drone. Send it to the wave shaper, altering the tone.
This can be a triangle, Sawtooth or a square. Modulate the pulse width, nobody will care

The question is not about cost! The question is about limitation. I'm not looking for a suggestion, thank you, but I'm looking for answer. Read the question.

Agreed.

And, if limiting is the thing, then you can surely limit yourself. The thing is, you have the possibility, if you one day need the additional features. You don't have that with a lite version of Ableton, Cubase or Bitwig.
