Not sure if this is news to everyone, but I just received an email about this. Soniccoutrue have made a free version of their Hammersmith Piano, which is quite generous. About 5gb, 21 velocity layers. You probably won't find a much better free piano out there.

It's not new because it's been around for years. It is popular, though. I tried it myself, but the low end was spongy, so it had to go back in the water.
