Been using ableton since about 9 years now, and it's always been a mess. I got tons of vsts, racks, max for live stuff, and I wonder if theres a good way to organize all this. The colored favorite tabs on the side are a bit limited since there's only about 7 of them with no way to add more. I would love to organize all my stuff in categories like instruments, creative effects, compressors, stereo, EQs, distortions, midi effects of different kinds, etc... is the best way create folder structures and just wrap the plugins as ableton live rack presets? How do you personally organize, if you do?

I use 'User Library' with Folder organization with categories and drag drop save everything I use as a preset

I like to keep my mixing plugins and instrument plugins vst in 2 seperate main folders. Then i use subfolders within those 2 main folders. For e.g in my instrument folder there is a sub folder for all my additive synth, another for fm synths and another for wavetable synths and sampled instruments and so on. For the mixing plugins main folder, there are also sub folders, for e.g a folder for eq's, compressors, distortion and so forth. Im on a mac so the way id go make these alterations is by going to finder entering /library/audio/plug-ins/vst and start creating folders & sub folders there and start organizing vsts into them.
