Exactly, they’re falling behind on their core stuff. Acon is really starting to steal their thunder, they have De-Bird in their latest suite - very handy if it works. De-plane would be a godsend.cthonophonic wrote: Wed Sep 07, 2022 2:26 am I mostly use RX for touching up field recordings. Unless they develop a de-wind that actually works or a de-plane (De plane! De plane!) algorithm, I don't anticipate upgrading any time soon.

God, that would be incredible indeed! The joys of living under the flight path of one of the big 3 NYC metro airports. De-bark would also be great.

Hmm, I may eat my words if Spectral Recovery’s low end is as good in practice as this demo. Have thought for years this might be possible one day.
The audio-to-text looks slow to render and CPU intensive, I can see people turning it off. Also it can’t auto-replace words with alts, which would be a good trick, and it needs a way of harvesting audio from throughout a project, not just the clip you’re working on. Maybe RX11 it will become useful.
As it is, I’m gonna demo it next week as the new Recovery has my interest.

In terms of an "iZotope update" I actually think the RX changes look pretty substantial. At least compared to prior RX updates I've seen.

Pro Tools Expert - usually very supportive of iZotope - were quite scathing about RX10:
https://www.pro-tools-expert.com/produc ... rst-review
But playing devil’s advocate for a moment, part of their criticism is it isn’t good value. I have an offer to update to Everything iZotope for $199, where I’d also get updates to Neutron and Ozone and get Neoverb for the first time. That’s still far from a slam dunk mind as those other updates all also look underhelming.
It all hinges on RX10 and how good spectral replace is, I think. On the basis of the Pro Tools Expert video:
It’s hard to say. I want to clearly see the lowest fundamentals getting brighter and - if necessary - creating them from scratch. That should in theory be possible, but have they done it? Don’t know yet. Their example in the video isn’t very good, it just creates vague bass, not specific frequencies that are lacking. I don’t know whether to blame them or iZotope yet, I’ll demo at the weekend.
Also the speech-to-text doesn’t seem to work well - quelle surprise.
Aside from price, their conclusion is that the innovation is sorely lacking these days and it’s hard to disagree.

That's Pro Tools Expert in a nutshell. A waste of time.

I downloaded the demo and that was the very first feature I tried to use. RX10 promptly crashed on me each time I tried to use that feature!
I might try it again later, after I finish some other tasks on my computer, then reboot my computer, etc — but I honestly don't have high hopes at this point. It's looking more and more like I'll be sticking with RX7 awhile longer.
I'm involved with photography & audio. For more info, take a look at my site:

IIRC it did improve significantly between 7 and 8, but nothing since then. I find on some material it is little short of miraculous, on others it’s a bit ropey.McLilith wrote: Thu Sep 08, 2022 9:30 pmI downloaded the demo and that was the very first feature I tried to use.
