I wanted to see if this is a desired feature or not in Live 4 by posting here. I have posted over at Abelton and emailed the Live Mavens.

I really am used to pianoroll keys and midi notes sounding when I clicked. Why doesn't Live have this feature? I may be missing a configuration setting because this would be a serious shortcoming - I cannot work in a sequencer without the ability to "paint" in sound. This program is unusable for midi editing for me without it. I have put it aside for anything but audio looping.

Thanks,
Gordon

You alt-click on the piano roll itself to hear the notes if you didn't know about this one. It's true though it's a feature missing.

Hey Paradiddle!OK it does work on my PC. But it is not what I am after. I want the notes to sound in place.

Let's go and cram Ableton's forum with that request! :) Groundhog day coming up!

I have already posted in FR. They are usually quite responsive. I just wanted to get some POVs on this kind of feature.

That problem mentioned a while ago on the forum. Some people argued that they liked it this way cuz they could enter notes live and not hear the sounds. They should just put it has an option to shut it on/off in the preference. That would please both parties.

I just spoke with Christian Kleine (nice guy!) who assured me that this function is on the list of new features. :D :D

oh yeah? That's cool. He didn't mention anything else did he? :D

I know that they said PDC was on the todo list. Once they implement that, it'll be bad ass. Vst midi plugins would be nice also. So far you can't use something like era or a vst arppegiator in live.
