what exactly is truly groundbreaking about fabfilter reverb

In all seriousness I haven't studied enough about reverbs to make them 'groundbreaking.' Hell I barely understand early reflections, and all the settings in Valhalla Room throw me for a loop. But I do know when I stick FF-R on an Aux track and send things to it those things sound better. I endorse this event or product.

Would that be better?

That statement probably made more sense when the product was first released, which is most likely close to when the statement was paid, uh, I mean made.
I really like it myself, for the sound I want. I demoed all the regular suspects and ended up buying this. I’ve heard some people say it sounds metallic, but not to me, not without some extreme filtering and eq probably. I’ve heard some others sound quite metallic though. I find Pro-R is nice and smooth, quick to dial in the sound you want.

Here in Rancho it was pretty bad yesterday afternoon, but looks like it's lifted for now.

I remember when I used to enjoy fall, rather than fear it. Alas.

To be fair it's a great reverb...

Don't know about it being 'groundbreaking' tho'.

Their prices, that simple.

If you like the sound of your music in a metal pipe, get ProR. One of worst reverbs to my ears. Total disappointment when I tried it. So I found the dashed expectations to be groundbreaking.

Pro R is a really nice sounding reverb to my ears. The groundbreaking aspect is the tail filter which is dynamic.

I had similar opinion in the past, but the thing is Pro-R has a very useful and easy to use set of features that can tame its sound in the way you want. So, it’s not Blackhole, obviously, and it was designed for other task - mixing, not for never ending FX clouds…

Pro-R can makes spaces that invisible in the mix, tame any frequency you want to be tamed in visual way. I hear this “metallic stuff” in any other reverb without post processing. Pro-R have all the tools built in.

So, it’s really good reverb for mixing tasks, it doesn’t have beatiful or characterful sound, it’s like tofu, but I bet there are many cases when you need it, nothing more. It’s just works in the mix when you brave enough to tweak couple of knobs inside…
