Problem using Orion Platinum as rewire slave

I found the problem I think - for some reason the wrong path was added to the rewire devices section in the registry. Now I've edited it to point to the right path it is showing up in the devices list.

But now I can get every instrument to play in rewire mode except two - Ultran and the Sampler - unfortunately these were the two I most wanted OP for.

Talk about sods law!

he's not seeing it in devices with both progs up,,which leads me to beleive its a Rewire.dll problem.
do a search to make sure theres no other dll on the system.
with the tracktion ReWire.dll copy and overwrite the dll into system and system32 again ,,rebooting,,open tracktion then orion again
sorry I'm just not seeing anything else at the moment :(

i had this problem although not with tracktion. the solution for me was to install the demo of reason and then it worked. it must sort out rewire or somthing.

This is weird. After playing a bit more it's definately only Ultran and Sampler that won't work in Rewire slave mode. But the others don't play properly - instead of the focus going to the generator selected as happens in standalone mode everytime I add another generator they just all play together in unison.

Even in standalone mode Ultran sounds funny - it's not allowing sounds to decay naturally - as soon as I let go of the key the sound stops dead instead of coming to a natural end - the other synths seem to work OK.

Post

Oh yeah - and I've just found out that if I run it in Rewire slave mode, then go back to using the standalone it resets all my audio and midi in/out settings - even trying to force my KX drivers to run at 44kz.

Have you got the MIDI mode set to Advanced or Easy? They may all be receiving on the same channel.

aMUSEd, if your problem persists without a solution, post your problem in the Orion support forum. Answers come fairly quick there:

or you can just let Kriminal figure it out :hihi:

Easy - does that make a diff in slave mode though?

Couldnt tell you right now, but try using advanced and putting each generator on a diff channel.

Im not familiar with the workings of Traction, so i wont be able to help much, but as Sick said, try the Orion forum if you dont have any luck here.

Thanks Krim - it worked setting each generator to it's own channel. Bit more laborious but at least I get sound.

Now I've just got to crack the reason why Ultran isn't responding properly and why OP keeps dumping my settings. Maybe I'll try the other forum then.

In Easy mode, the synth with 'focus' recieves the MIDI, in Advanced, obviously you have to assign each to a channel.

Also, with the native synths, they all have a 'keyrange' so you can play 4 at once if for example, you place each to a diff octave on your controller kybd.

Little tip, just felt like telling you :D

BTW, have you got all the samples for the Ultran installed? Did you do a 'full install' or just a small one?

Post

A small one. I'm really only testing it at this stage on my old PC as my new PC arrives anyday now.

Do you think thats behind the Ultran issue? I had considered that but it's not affected the Sampler.

Post

The sounds that come with the Ultran and Sampler are big sample files, and you really should do a complete install, so Orion knows where the samples are, rather than having to keep pointing it to the CD.

Like Krim said, those are big samples. If you have the room for them, definately install the full monty..

As for what you're saying about Orion dumping settings, it has a feature after a crash that asks you if you want to make your settings 'safe'..Are you getting that mssge? I don't know how/if rewire is affecting that or not as I never use rewire, but also keep in mind that you can set different audio settings for input & output, which are on seperate windows. Make sure you have all these assigned to what you need & they're in tandem with Tracktion.

Hope that helps.
