Ableton Live: How to Reset the System-Detected MIDI Device# Assignments?

I think this is a PC only issue, maybe. See screenshot below and what the red arrows are pointing to. I wish to reset these numbers back to "nothing," as in no number in front of the input/output names.
I have many, saved track templates that have their inputs set to A-PRO 1, which is my keyboard controller. At the time of saving the track template, the device was known as A-PRO 1, not 2- A-PRO 1. I think Live, or Windows, detected a second instance of the inputs and assigned the 2-. Now all my track templates, or saved, past projects, have "dead" inputs which need to be manually configured to the current assignment of 2- A-PRO 1.
I *think* this may be a Windows only issue, as the system is the one actually detecting the devices plugged into USB and assigning their "names" and possibly retaining them in the Registry. I believe the problem occurs if the device is moved to a different USB port, even though it is the same damn device.
How can I reset these devices so that only the FIRST instance is loaded and retained?
Thanks in advance for any help!

Go to Control Panel > Device manager >View > Show hidden devices.
Go to sound, video and game controllers OR Universal serial bus controllers >
you will find all installed midi devices including the unused ones. Select and remove/delete.
Regards.

Use USBDeview to tidy up the device drivers. Very useful tool, been using it for at least 5 years.

or, if you feel brave, manually edit the registry entries.
