Which plugins don't deserve the hype?

Imo:
1--Valhalla VintageVerb
Reverb is ok, but it's almost never my first choice

2--P24 pulsar modular
I just know a friend regrets the purchase for a pretty high price a lot.
Always wondered what this plugin is good for,
could not find any analog mojo during demo.

3-- Soothe
I found better alternative way more user-friendly and natural sounding imo

4-- Pianoteq
Sound is still too far away from real pianos.
Some expansions and pianos are just too weak sounding imo.
But if you didn,t expect the pianos to sound too realistic
you could consider them new kind of instruments,
maybe that way it could work!?

5-- Autotune
Spotify shows every day, why I started hating this plugin
Autotune as an effect is not cool any more,
not special, unique or creative imo

I also remember the day when Baby Audio Taip was released,
like 100 hyping videos on YouTube,
but the hype didn't last long,
imo plugin would not even be worth to be downloaded,
if it was available for free

ALL EFFECTS PLUGINS. I mostly use whatever comes with my host because, for the most part, effects just don't matter.
NOVAkILL : Legion GO, AMD Z1x, 16GB RAM, Win11 | Audient EVO 8 | Lumi Keys | Studio Pro 8
Korg Odyssey, bx-oberhausen, Proxima, PolyMax, GR8, JP6K, Union, Atomika,
Invader 2, Flow Motion, Olga, TRK 01, Thorn, Spire, VG Iron

How much time would it take to master VVV, to decipher the results of the interaction between all the different modes and modulation amounts? A long time.
Every day takes figuring out all over again how to f#ckin’ live.

Izotope Ozone
Arturia synths
They are not bad,
but I just don't like them very much.
I am also not a fan of any sonible plugin

FabFilter Pro-Q.

u-He Diva
I tried it but don't get why people adore this plugin this much.

Pianoteq
Just as you said, it does not sound like a real piano to me.

Soundtoys Plugins
Okay, it was good when it first came out but it's just behind the competition right now, especially with its UI.
I only use Echoboy from them because that's the only one I couldn't really replace with anything. I'm open to suggestions, I mainly use it for its different styles (DM-2, Distorted, etc.)

I second everything that’s been said here (excepted Nexus, love this thing) :

- Autotune : sounds absolutely ridiculous to me, laughable, like the guy has some mental issues or something that needs external help quickly. I use it for that purpose : parody and stupid songs. :D

- Pianoteq : granted, they improve themselves all the time. But it doesn’t sound real at all !! If you think so, it’s time to change your monitors my friend, they deliver something too approximative to your ears ! You can only trick a noob with this... On high end monitors you can hear strange clickings on attacks, WTF body, resonances from space... this is the uncanny valley and nothing else...

- Diva : yes, it sounds absolutely superb if you’re after nostalgic sound, but for anything modern it’s unusable. It’s a niche product after all : people who loved 80’s sound will love it for sure. But I strongly doubt you really hear Diva on every today’s radio hit. Praise Diva for what it is : a best of all your old synths. We’re in 2022. People who care about this old stuff are not really the vast majority of successful modern producers. Diva is NOT that synth you believe it is, it’s not the ultimate game changer or the mother of all synths : for some of us it’s a meh synth. It fits your needs for sure, I respect that, but young producers will probably go "WTF ?! Sounds like grandpa’s records" (yes, of course, unless they’re after that 80’s sound also, don’t be stupid lol)...

- Valhalla reverbs. They sound good. Very good. At first try I found them jawdropping. But the fact is that on good monitors, they fall short against higher-priced reverbs. My opinion is that they are the best possible quality budget reverbs, but they’ll never be the best reverbs on the market. And when reading KVR, that’s what you’re lead to believe sometimes. Sorry, but I don’t think so.

- This plugin. It’s not that amazing after all. I’ve tried it on a walrus sneezing and this plugin produced some kind of weird barking-like dub delay followed by a ring-modulated flanger... I’m sorry, but I expected better from this plugin on a walrus sneeze. I think it’s overrated on KVR.

Diva is definitely not overrated. AutoTune is industry standard (for transparent vocal tuning or dramatic effect) and Valhalla reverbs are used on countless hit records. I’ve mixed a few.

Funnily enough, the synths used on “grandpas records” are still used today on modern hits lol. Most artist and producers love vintage gear because a lot of times it just sounds better. If you can’t make Diva sound modern then it’s not Diva who sounds old 😝

To the OPs topic though, pretty much all plugins are overhyped to some degree. It comes down to finding the tools that you need. IMO we focus way too much on plugins vs just making music.

I completely agree, focus should be more on making music.
I also agree and am pretty sure Autotune and Valhalla is used
on today's music, because this plugins are hyped and
you can hear the results every day on Spotify.
Everyday spotify shows with daily about 30.000
new uploads how people focus on music lol
If only 1% was good, but...
not easy to find 1%, don't have the time to listen
to 30.000 tracks everyday :D

OK, you're right.

Never said that Vahlalla's reverbs are not used on modern songs, or even more that Autotune is not (WTF lol, it's everywhere !!), and Diva is perfectly right for this Synthwave vibe, never said anything about this, but OK. :D
