Nova is detecting the 6 highest resonant peaks in an offline analysis, then creating a static dynamic band for each. Soothe's "bands" are constantly floating and can track moving resonances in realtime.

In practice, what Soothe does might be overkill for the job and Nova does give you more precise control as long as the resonance is static. But yeah, different processes :)

Trackspacer can do that.

Just set the sidechain to a copy of the main signal, so basically it "listens" to itself. Then, use the built-in low-cut filter so it just attenuates the "resonances" and not the fundamental frequencies.

I'd be more intrigued by this - as from what I understand, Trackspacer has 32 dynamic bands under the hood? I'm going to to try this later!
So that would denote that NOVA is more "per track" where as Soothe can sit on the master ?
Don't trust those with words of weakness, they are the most aggressive

The McDSP SA-3 is a clone of Soothe 2

I thought the op asked for non-iLok alternatives..

your right, I posted the best alternatives anyway cause it just came out and its good to know, I think all to people have left ilok recently as well, maybe they will figure out the pain in the neck it is

I use many different tools for sounds with resonance problems. I use gulfoss if I want something "automatic" I use track spacer to duck a track spectrally and I use melda spectral dynamics when I need very hands on control. I find most "dynamic frequency control" plugins to be over the top at settings that change the level of a given frequency by more than a couple DBso I'll usually go with a standard static eq for more broad adjustments.

late to this thread but adding one more option since SMOOTH didn't exist when it was last discussed.

i'm the developer: KERN Audio SMOOTH ($29, no iLok, no subscription). 40 ERB bands, real-time spectral processing, tracks moving resonances the same way soothe does. free demo at https://kernaudio.io/smooth.

current no-iLok options in this category as i see it: SMOOTH, DSEQ3 (TBProAudio), Gullfoss (Soundtheory), MSpectralDynamics (Melda). soothe 2 itself also dropped the hardware dongle requirement a while back if the original objection was the physical iLok dongle specifically.

the architectural difference worth knowing: DSEQ3 and SMOOTH both use ERB-spaced filterbanks and track in real time. Gullfoss is more of an intelligent auto-EQ that reshapes balance. Melda is very flexible but higher latency and steeper learning curve. different tools for different degrees of control.

No resonance problems, where do you get your resonance problems from? Make proper gain staging and panning and use good mics and learn how to position mics.
The room you are recording/tracking in should have the appropriate mics, Neumanns could be a bad choice for bed room productions, cuz Neumann even records every fart of a fly.
Btw there is also Baby Audio smooth operator, have it, but haven't used it yet, not sure whether BA is iLok, though.

I just got FutureMB from three body tech. Might be worth taking a look at.

Did anyone mention Melda Auto EQ? There's a 'Remove Resonance' button at the bottom. I've used it but it seems to remove too much, but you can adjust the removal level.

I use SpecCraft. It's a great plugins and more options than Soothe

Someone mentioned Voxengo Voxformer, which is hardly in the category we're discussing.

But Voxengo Teote is! Like all Voxengos, it doesn't look sexy but, like all Voxengos, it works – beautifully. No iLok, either, if that's a problem for some. ;-)

If it were easy, anybody could do it!
