I am looking at the MOTU M4 but i wish there was a 6 in version. Does anybody have recommendation of a 6 in audio interface with direct monitor?

Just about any of them, tbh. Gear has gotten so good, even at the lower end. Focusrite, Steinberg, whatever. Of course "6 in" can mean diff things as almost anything can and is called an "in" or an "out" on interfaces, so read ads carefully.

I've had a Scarlett with a dodgy USB socket, and the 6in Steinberg (Ur44c) is priced £700+ compared to £230 for the 4 channel MOTU and i don't want NI or M-Audio. I'm interested about RME but again they're expensive and i haven't saw a suitable 6in RME interface. I'm still stumped. But thanks!

What about RME Digiface USB with its ADAT connectivity plus Behringer ADA8200 Ultra Gain?

I suspect your faulty Focusrite was an exception, but I don't blame you for being skittish about them after that experience.
