In October 2022 the first commercially released audio plugin
will get 30 years old!
Today still available as VST, AU and whatever.
Which plugin was the first released instrument plugin?
When dx7 was released in 1984 (the 1st successful digital synth)
there was Macintosh 128k (1 st Macintosh computer),
but no pro tools or cubase yet, but google gave me following
information:
The first DAWs were conceived in the late 70s and early 80s. Soundstream, which developed the first digital recorder in 1977, developed what is considered the first DAW. Bringing together a minicomputer, disk drive, video display, and the software to run it all was the easy part.
Which is the first plugin you purchased and which old plugins do you still use?
My first plugin was Softube Tsar reverb,
I think I bought it in 2011?

You are right, VST was launched in 1996,
so google gave me some wrong information.
But I also found following information:
Is Cubase the first DAW?
In 1992, Steinberg released Cubase Audio Mac, a computer-based digital audio recorder for the Mac that, like the Opcode products, also utilized Digidesign hardware. This was the first DAW to incorporate audio, MIDI, and scoring (music notation.
Midi was standardized in 1983.
I always thought Pro Tools was the first daw?!

Or was it a Waves Renaissance bundle?
Can't remember any more

I don't remember exactly which plugin was my first ever, but BigTick Angelina (2002) was one of the first I used, for sure.

Bought it from eBay, key to register to my account. Maybe 10 bucks. This was 2016, as I came to digital music quite late.martinjuenke wrote: Fri Sep 16, 2022 6:56 pmWhat have you paid?

I picked up the freebie, just to have it with updates. Switched to Valhalla and others, though.

First synth I remember buying was largo. Still have the box for it. First effect was I think Sonalksis EQ and I still use it from time to time. If they made a new bigger UI I’d use it all the time, perfectly good EQ.

And my first paid plugin was, IIRC, D12's ToraVerb.
