Fewer mixing channels and the total number of plug-ins is limited in the CMuzys version.

I've been able to get around this by bouncing tracks to audio, and using FX sends rather than inserts. Not having enough slots for VSTis (5 max) has never been an issue for me, especially when multitudes of vsti pathces can be realized (from one instrument) with simple program change messages. From time to time, I did run over the limit with VST FX plugs, but again, diligent use of aux sends usually solves that problem. Also remember that you can use the 'process through mixdesk plugin' feature in the wave labo (this essentially gives you the ability to use as many FX's as you want. More work, but... possible.

Let's remember, Beck's classic, "Mellow Gold" was recorded on a Tascam 8-track. So, it's not about gignatic hosts folks.

I'm mean... for free, Cmuzys is an absolute blessing. Well, not exactly free, but might as well be. With every issue of Computer Music, you get the CD with Muzys and other worthwile plugins, not to mention free royality-free samples

Ten years ago, you had to pay BIG money for DAW software. It's truly an exciting time for people who want to compose music on thier computer.

Yeah, "missing" entirely: just MuZynth and ReWire (master) support, as far as I remember. Lots less of lots of things that are there. Like EZ says, it's possible to get around most of these one way or another.

Indeed, having unlimited anything in the host isn't the same as having it really unlimited: your CPU will still hit 100% at some point and then you need to bounce down to audio.

Only having multitimbral support for DS-404 is quite a big limitation, though: using GM soundfonts is painful in CM... That's what made me upgrade.

Heheh. Yeah, you probably get -real- work done. (I'm only guessing.)

I just like to write songs for myself. If I had to work for clients (for example) I'd have a different perspective. I'd probably just rewire Ableton Live for linear audio streaming. Although if I was working solo with no need to overdub any other musical talent, then I could still make it happen with just Muzys.

My big gripes about Muzys have always been:
-Signal routing limitations
-Lack of vector based envelopes

Dude, I am always saving before I start editing those evil graphic based ones. If there's ever been any instability with my system and Muzys it's always been about those damn'd envelopes!

Hmmmm - is it my imagination or does the Muzys/EnergyXT combination really suck arse in a major way.

I get a non-resizable window with eXT as a plug-in.

Not terribly useful.

Anyone else been using this combination at all?

Its awsome to see that Muzys is still at least a topic of discussioin... Lets keep Muzys alive!!

I keep trying eXT. People keep telling me it's the greatest thing since sliced bread. I keep thinking "Uh?" when I run it and not trying very hard to use it. Tracktion and Live4 got more use (actually, I keep meaning to give Tracktion a proper go: I did try writing a track in Live4 before giving up). eXT just leaves me wondering where to find the help button... and quitting before I do.

Muzys 3.14 came out on 12 July 2003. It's not doing too badly, considering its age!

Unfortunately eXT has no help button, but it does have alot of help info outside of the actual program.

It's good and has quite a few things that Muzys doesn't have, but what it doesn't have is the marvellous midi editing functions of Muzys. It always pisses me off because I used those alot in Muzys.

It also cannot automate or change tempo during a song which also shits me.

So I'm now looking at popping it in a host that can automate tempo and then slave eXT to it.

:D
