SSL LMC+ $ 25

Does anyone have experience with SSL LMC+?
I remember to download a demo last time was a mess, you had to download all plugins from a strange website as far as I remember.
So I think I could not even demo it, because
I already activated a group demo in iLokmanager.
It's used on drums first and foremost, isn't it?

I have it, but I haven’t used it too much because we’re still waiting on Apple Silicon.
From what I have experienced so far, I find it to be pretty messy and fiddly. It’s easier to get good results from Omnipressor, Comprexxor, or any number of 1176 all-buttons-in models. It is indeed something you would most likely use on a drum buss or room mic.
I didn’t have any issue with downloading and authorizing LMC+ that I recall. It uses iLok.
But what is the $ 25 about?

Now stop, stop right there. That alone is good reason to stop thinking right now.
Did you hear that big 'Brrrr' sound in your head as you typed that? kind of like the sound FX that gets played on quiz shows when the contestant gets the answer wrong? Be that a lesson to you.
and no, if you want to know what it brings, it's best to demo it for yourself and find this out.

Yeah, the LMC+ is modeled on the SSL's talkback mic compressor, which had only one job: make the musicians' drunken mumbles audible to the engineer through a PZM mic, no matter where they were in the room. It wasn't meant to be delicate or nuanced or transparent. It only knew how to smash.
So it is quite a different beast than any other compressor.

SSL Listen Mic feature gave 1979 birth by accident to the iconic loved/hated Gated Reverb effect.

A couple things about that sound:
Peter Gabriel actually took Phil Collins's cymbals away during recording.
- It really needs to be on a room mic with some distance on it
- It needs to be gated
- Hi-hat and cymbals need to be recorded separately if at all, and kept out

I bet you (like me) got that detailed 80s drum sound info from the following video, right?

I actually hadn't seen that video before. I just know the technique from trial & error, and also bits of interviews I've read with Phil Collins, Hugh Padgham, and Peter Gabriel.
I liked this video very much though. Lots of good technique. I'm probably going to have to pick up the SPL Transient Designer plug now, while it's on sale for $19.99!

My thinking in this case is less presuming or speculating, it rather refers to my experience with SSL plugins.jinotsuh wrote: Sat Sep 17, 2022 10:59 pmNow stop, stop right there. That alone is good reason to stop thinking right now.![]()

I know 4 SSL compressors.
The one in the CS, bus comp, x valve and x comp.
What LMC does is mainly smash a sound?
You can smash sound with every above mentioned compressor.
That's why I didn't buy X Comp and X Valve. in addition to bus comp and cs.
I am not going to buy just another nice gui only with some extra features added.
LMC has automatic gain control?
The feature never works 100% and you will always have to slightly adjust gain manually. So not important to me.
No LMC video on yt was inspiring enough to even demo it.
Now imagine you would have all 5 SSL compressors, they are so similar that it would be a waste of money.
One or two add some saturation to the sound? Just put a saturation that sounds even better than SSL saturation before the comp! Imo every SSL comp is just another comp in new clothes with different amount of buttons. SSL compression is great, no doubt!
Btw I don't know the Brrrr sound, I don't watch tv, never liked it.

I demoed lmc+, I have SSL buscompr and channelstrip and prefer them even on
parallel drum bus, it's a matter of taste.
Despite of autogain most presets made it louder,
that's what I don't expect from autogain.
I will pass this tempting offer,
I am ok with buscompr, channel strip and also have SSL reverb.
@plugintester
Demo is simple, if you have an pluginboutique account, you can download
a trial version there and it will not install all SSL plugins,
I remember it was in the past that way, you need iLokmanager,
but do not need a dongle
