Which plugins are hyped too much in your opinion?

3rd party plugins are usually more user friendly and let's you achieve same result, that you could do with stock daw plugins faster. I think pretty much 90 percent of plugins are overrated, including synths. For instance currently Reason 12 stock rack has everything it needs. Just their reverbs a bit suck for my usage.

I don't get the beating on (emulations of) classical subtractive synths. They did not get worthless with the implementation of "new" (mostly rediscovered ) technologies.
An acoustic guitar did not get useless by inventing electric guitars. This is not a question of retro or modern, rather one of style, genre, arrangement and aesthetics.
Would you replace the ondes martenot in a recent interoretation of Messian's Turangalila with a"modern" synth? Maybe. But I would consider this a crime.

Once you read the thread title as "list the things you don't like as much as others do" a lot of these posts start to make a lot more sense.ReverendLove wrote: Sun Sep 18, 2022 3:49 pm I don't get the beating on (emulations of) classical subtractive synths. That’s exactly what it’s all about !!Urs wrote: Sun Sep 18, 2022 4:07 pmOnce you read the thread title as "list the things you don't like as much as others do" a lot of these posts start to make a lot more sense.ReverendLove wrote: Sun Sep 18, 2022 3:49 pm I don't get the beating on (emulations of) classical subtractive synths. I said that some people love Diva (a lot of my co-workers -who tend to enjoy synthwave- love Diva) and some others don’t care at all (the ones that are trying to follow the modern sound never mentionned it to me). And we can read the same on KVR.
I really don’t think that means any disrespect in any way to anybody.
Especially when I say all the time how much I love Hive, and I already said I’m waiting for Zebra 3 with my Z2 licence, sorry for any inconvenience, but no offense intended.
This topic is here to let you know some people have different opinions. Some users seem to be incredibly upset about this, like they never knew and can’t understand. Well, greetings from planet Earth, some people don’t think just like you do.
Mods are going crazy because they have to babysit here... can we just accept what we read in peace ?

By the way, you made a product that made 80 lovers more than happy (Diva), and you made a product that made modern-sound lovers more than happy (Hive). How can I explain that everything’s fine in this world ?

It's not beating the emulations themself, they are mostly a piece of well-made SW. It's rather to say they are overhyped, because people are running after this stuff, while claiming, that is is the hottest shit they ever heard on plugin-side and all other plugins sound cold, digital and meh, while they are not recognizing, that this type of synths is just important for a small amount of mostly retro-stuff, but for most modern music styles they are not just not needed, but even counterproductive, because they are often hard to integrate in a mix, because of the fatness needing too much space. Furthermore most of the properties associated with analog sound (movement, saturation and noise) can for 90% imitated with each synth und the missing 10% get lost during the production and post-production part.ReverendLove wrote: Sun Sep 18, 2022 3:49 pm I don't get the beating on (emulations of) classical subtractive synths. Your example with guitars does not match, because synth music and electronic music was always to spot out new areas, never heard before and beeing innovative. Many musicians, which were innovators in the 70ies and 80ies use today's stuff as Reakor, Max or whatever and not just staying on their analog instruments, while praising them as the holy grail of synths.
Guitar heavy music has not the demand to be continuously innovative.
For guitars, the analogy would be, that a manufacturer is developing a guitar, claiming that this model sounds exactly as an 1954 stratocaster, and some guys praising it as the best guitar currently available because all the modern guitars sound like shit.

I also didn’t agree with the guitar example, as guitar is itself an evolution of traditional luth from middle-ages. What would middle-age people say if they would hear electric guitar ?

Yes and for our grandparents rockmusic was distorted and undersophisticated shit of rebelling youth and only the warmth of classical instruments in a classical orchester was "the real thing".DJErmac wrote: Sun Sep 18, 2022 7:16 pm I also didn’t agree with the guitar example, as guitar is itself an evolution of traditional luth from middle-ages. Experimenting and evolving is no privilege for electro-acoustic music. Contemporary electronic music falls far behind the experiments and inventions from women and men since the beginning of the last century.Your example with guitars does not match, because synth music and electronic music was always to spot out new areas, never heard before and beeing innovative. Many musicians, which were innovators in the 70ies and 80ies use today's stuff as Reakor, Max or whatever and not just staying on their analog instruments, while praising them as the holy grail of synths.
Guitar heavy music has not the demand to be continuously innovative.
Twelve tone music, serialism, micro tonality, aleatoric, generative music and allthis stuff was done in the first half of the last century. While this stuff benefits sometimes from producing with electro-acustic tppls, it does not need them except for ideasthat cannot be made by human beings physically.
So - if something is really over hyped here it is the impact of new plugins on music in general. Contemporary electronic music Is old wine in new skins mostly.
