Audio Interface changing sample rates

OK I am completely lost for ideas here.

I have an Audient ID4 Mark One. Uses the old USB Printer style connection.

I've gone through about 4 cables now they stop working and lose connection to the unit randomly.

I cannot understand why, and the only thing I can think of could be the changing of sample rates, causing a loudish audible click from the unit when it does so.

Could that in any possible way damage the USB ? (tbh I can't see how, but it's worth a shot asking)

It could be the relay.

My old Saffire Pro 24 DSP lost connection when switching from external to internal clock a couple of times but never between sample rates - though the physical switching sound was the same from inside the unit. When it did, turning it off and on again fixed the issue - there might have been one time where it required the whole PC restarting.

Not had this issue with the Clarett, which is a solid little unit. No experience with Audient's hardware.

I've turned off USB suspend for all USB connections a million times and Windows keeps turning it back on, so thank you for reminding me, I had to disable that setting again across the board.

Strange that it's the cable - unless it isn't making full contact inside the unit.

I've had one device with this issue (Novation Impulse) but the connection was obviously loose, as it had a number of degrees of movement up and down inside the keyboard. My solution there was a piece of paper the same length as the USB plug; wrapped around a number of times. I'm still using it like that.

Have you tested the cables with other devices?

No tbh I haven't I just change them out with the unit and the new ones work for a while. 2 quid a throw its not breaking the bank, but getting annoying. The ID4 Mk2 is USB C which says a lot.

It's the little things that can be easiest to skip over so don't kick yourself if that's the reason. Is there any motion on the cable when plugged in? If so, it might be an issue with the connection and maybe, as it gradually moves over time, the slight vibration from the switching between sample rates might be the last straw. If that is the issue, another fix might simply be to support the cable if it's just hanging down the back of your desk.

I'm guessing you've checked the appropriate forum for the product - if not - maybe others have experienced a similar issue.

Sounds like a buzzkill. Hope you can get it fixed soon so your flow isn't interrupted.

I'll smash this shite Audio Interface tbh before it bothers me. And get something better.
