The additive oscillator in Falcon is very similar to the one in Pigments; each one has a few features that the other doesn't, but they're in the same ballpark. One feature I like in Falcon's version is a parameter that keeps the fundamental, even when other settings would get rid of it.Dencheg wrote: Fri Sep 02, 2022 10:47 am I can't recal a modern purely additive synth; looke like devs tend to make it a part of WT synths (which you're aware of).
It's done like that in Zebra 2, Serum, MSoundFactory/MPowerSynhg, Dune 3, and Pigments.
Even though I think Dune is the perfect blend of features, looks like Pigment's additive engine has the most stuff going on
So what’s the big gorilla of additive synths now?

Kaleidoscope is another image-based additive synth. It isn't polyphonic, and doesn't accept MIDI input, but it works as a plugin, so it's easy to record the output to a track in your daw.muki wrote: Fri Sep 02, 2022 6:02 pm isn't metasynth an additive one (though not a vst) ?
quoting the manual:https://uisoftware.com/metasynth-manual/When the source is a simple sine wave, the image synth is a powerful additive synth capable of integrating thousands of harmonics.

Unfortunately only in FL Studio.LeVzi wrote: Fri Sep 02, 2022 2:10 pm I still use Morphine, it still works for now. And is still available.

It turned out that I have some money left over for some gear - and I ever wished to get Morphine. Now it is discontinued as VST.

Also, Cube 2 from VirSyn and Harmor, from Image-Line. Pigments and Falcon "can do" additive (up to some extent) although they are not "additive" at their core.
Too bad Apple killed Alchemy and made it just a Logic extension.

Assuming you mourn the loss of the windows version, as do many. For the peanut gallery, if an iPad is a tolerable device, Alchemy is still is part of garageband, see first link, and for older macs, Mainstage has it, see second link, so it still might run on older macs, if just reading the prices on new macs starts to melt one's credit cards

I only have the CM version, but that's still a great instrument.
Cheers

well...
as far as i can see from the yt video
this rather looks like the "alchemy player",
which used to be a seperate standalone back in the days
it's just a preset player - far from the full editable, multiengine-super-synth...
p.s.:
strange: my (old ?) garageband, v unknown...apple secret?) , on my (old) ipad (iOS 12something) does not offer
me an alchemy variation of the keyboard...?
pps:
out of curiosity:
how can i see which garageband version i have?
ah i see now: newest version of garageband needs iOS 16 and is not available in 12...

I'm currently working on building the next great additive synth in Reaktor, here...
I'm looking for suggestions or requests to help fill out the feature set.
I've made a few new things since this video was shot, but I'm open to suggestions.

I just got MSoundFactory. I would agree that nothing can touch it in terms of additive synthesis:yellowmix wrote: Fri Sep 02, 2022 2:48 amMSoundFactory if you can deal with the workflow. The Additive module has up to 64 Harmonics (not restricted to sine wave), and you can always use multiple Additive modules if you want to slay your CPU.Aiynzahev wrote: Thu Sep 01, 2022 10:32 pm I was thinking of something purely additive that goes deep, but I guess there's nothing really new that I haven't heard about.
Modulate (per-voice/global) gain, detune, stereo width, and phase. You can set up 4 sets of partials at corners of an XY pad (which can also be modulated to morph between them). At each of these (named A through D) you can "Analyze sample" to resynthesize from audio files.
There's also a Modal filter module set up very similarly that is a lot of fun to process things through. Really good for physical modelling.

MusicDevelopments Syne, is not mentioned yet.
and indeed MSoundFactory is quite good at additive synthesis... and the Modal Filter, i use mostly for mayem..

Please see my Secrets post under Everything Else (Music Related) forum section:Aiynzahev wrote: Thu Sep 01, 2022 6:57 pm I’ve long wanted to explore additive more, I think harmor was the best overall that I’ve tried but it’s still not on Mac right?
What’s the big gorilla in the block now for most versatile and easiest to use?

FWIW, I just bought FL Fruity Edition + Harmor to use it on my mac with Live and Max. Least expensive way to add it to the toolbox if you’re on OSX (and don’t care about FL as a DAW). I’ve created a simple FL template that loads Harmor, so that it feels like another VSTi when using the FL wrapper in Live, and patched a simple M4L device to dial and send CCs to a dedicated Harmor IAC bus.
I’m kind of an additive junkie and Harmor has so many tricks up its sleeve I’d say it’s worth the hassle. Somehow it’s more versatile sounding than Razor IMO (I love Razor but I feel like a copycat whenever I use it) yet pretty intuitive to operate. The countless partials make a difference, but I suppose the magic is in the editors.
I’m super impatient to use and abuse Zebra 3’s additive rendering engine though, from what Urs shared that could be my dream synth.
Super impatient to jam the hell out of Sumu too.
