Technically this is probably from one of the source libraries (since altered states is a bunch of libraries stuck together), but was going through all my installed sample libraries trying to justify their disk space :)

First - altered states is still pretty cool, lots of good stuff in there (though I am browsing them as loops instead of kontakt instruments - way easier, and the instruments don't get you much anyways).

tl;dr - Altered States has a LORE 1 sample that is clearly the exact same sound as the famous M1 Lore patch. There's also a LORE 2 and LORE 3. So curious - which came first: did the M1 use the zero-g sample (maybe they licensed it?), did Ian Boddy sample the M1 for these, or did they both get it from Ian?

Just curiosity.... I figured this would be obvious but google was no help....

This is a good question. The M1 has some of my favorite sounding samples ever. I've been trying to find more information on how they were made and what kind of processing went into them. The early digital stuff has a flair and flavor that you can't find anywhere almost. I was pretty letdown by the sounds in the wavestate, it sounds so characteristically contemporary.
