Does anyone here know about bodhran (kind of a handheld drum, used in Irish music) samples (multisamples, loops)? Preferably free but a cheap collection from a reputable sample producer is ok too.

Thanks in advance!

A lot of bodhran loops was presented on the New World order #1 sampling CD fom sounds good so i think that www.primesounds.com has them online for download.

Thanks! Although I find the sound examples a bit hard to judge because of their quality. I like the dynamic qualities of the bodhran and the examples do not really do them justice. I assume though that the originals are of CD quality. Also, it's a pity that there are no single hits but at that price I guess I couldn't complain. The whole series of instruments you have there looks very good, though... :-)

There is something new called "google" - maybe You'll have a try:

Well - I DID search google and several sample websites before; this is not my first recourse. What I found, however, was either not what I wanted or too expensive.

I will, however, examine the list generated by your keywords as they are different from the combinations I used and they seem to contain some different hits.

The problem with sampling is, that one sample with a little filter is not enough.
Even a beginner might get 100 different sounds from a bodhran by hitting different points with varying dynamics.
So it would take at least 10 hitpoints each with 10 different dynamics (= 100 samples) to emulate this. These samples must be arranged in keyzones (for the position) and velocity crossfades (for the dynamics) for example in AKAI or Kontakt-format.
Maybe two days of work (for one sound) - thats why good sample-libraries are not for free.

There was someone selling Framedrum samples a while back. You can get them at the vsampler3 website, AFAIK.

WOK - you're of course absolutely right. However, I'm not trying to accurately emulate a bodhran, otherwise I guess a library like for example Storm Drum would be worth it. It's just that I like some sounds it produces and would like to use it as rhythmic background in my tracks without spending too much.

Thanks for all reactions, people! Some good links.
