Friend of mine is an old Reason fan. He just got Reason 12 so we can collab on some tracks. Nice
He is used to using the Mixer 14:2 for mixing only, and I'm now introducing him to the mixer... it's kinda exhausting but still fun.

That isn't what they actually said.DJBuddhaBear wrote: Mon May 02, 2022 4:09 pm They are prioritizing a new device player & offline mode for their + subscription over M1.

That will be no surprise if M1 will be paid upgrade as they introduced pretty basic scaling for 199$

Old post so I don't expect a reply, just an interesting question. My guess is it took the Logic team no time at all. Why? because they do not attempt to support two platforms and comply immediately with any changes under the hood Mac OS makes. Obviously they have other advantages being in the same building as the rest of Apples developers as well.jens wrote: Tue Jul 05, 2022 10:38 am It would be interesting to know how long it took them to port (say) Logic over - for all we know it might have been five years or more... behind the scenes they had all the time in the world to port their own stuff to their own "new" architecture - GarageBand for IOS, when did that one come out?
The way it works is I think easily explained by the last transition from PPC to Intel, Apple "suggested" you use Xcode because CodeWarrior is inferior etc. and you either take that suggestion for a hint that they're doing something internally that won't work with CodeWarrior or you ignore it. Some companies at the time ignored it and it took them forever to port.
Everyone around here was losing their minds about the changes to Catalina, Big Sur etc. that caused their code to break, and the ones that just went ahead and implemented it without workarounds had a much easier time of it. Granted if I was a developer I would also hate all this "housecleaning" Apple does and probably rag on them as much as people do here, but you can see what it all brings to the table in terms of their own progress. They are now developing their own chips, as a company I'm sure they're really happy with this, and hopefully in the future it pays out with more than just low thermal output laptops and less migration issues from them now that they're probably never using any other chip.

Logic release notes for the past few years were quite telling (insane amount of fixes and improvements in "minor" releases), that they were mostly refactoring the old codebase. Switching to a different compilation target in one day does not look like this.
Same for Reason Studios, replacing the old rendering engine with the new one to support scaling is anything but pretty basic.

Cubase, Digital Performer, Live, Bitwig, Reaper, Studio One, Tracktion, ReNoise, FL Studio, and Luna are all Apple Silicon native. The only major DAWs that are still not native are Pro Tools and Reason.bjm4tt wrote: Mon Sep 26, 2022 11:20 am Logic release notes for the past few years were quite telling (insane amount of fixes and improvements in "minor" releases), that they were mostly refactoring the old codebase. I'm not defending RS, but I do acknowledge that it must have been a lot of work to replace the rendering engine, something that was their defining feature from the beginning (the rack, cabling, etc). Before that, they have pulled off the plugin version, which is also a significant change in a software architecture. For some, these were either not needed or interesting at all, but were huge investments regarding development resources, and not just ticking checkboxes during compilation. It would have been next to suicidal to start an M1 architectural change at the same time, they had to focus and get those out of the door first.
Why they were "sleeping" on them for so long that's another story, probably lack of resources or lack of vision, etc. But let's hope that from now on we can expect more significant feature updates. I'm still on v11, even though I purchased v12 to show support.

There's not much to defend. They're set to be second to last, or last, for Apple Silicon support. Cubase and Digital Performer are DAWs just as old as Reason, in fact much older, they're both native.
It is what it is, there probably are reasons we don't know about that prevent them from being in the forefront of this change. My guess is massive parts of their GUI that still need changing, it's the main thing that is not platform independent code wise.

I made a huge mistake buying reason thinking they will release the M1 support sooner. They said they will come out with native version on point update and when it was on sale I jumped on it since it was like 150 bucks. This Reason 12 is unstable as hell. the CPU allocation is crazy. you will get CPU overload way sooner than any other DAW on earth at the moment. Total scam.

How many plugins you are using? I am myself moderate user, but also have infamous CPU hog Iris 2, so I average at 50 percent CPU usage per track.Studio Saturn wrote: Tue Sep 27, 2022 4:06 pm I made a huge mistake buying reason thinking they will release the M1 support sooner. Can anyone here provide the list of major DAWS that are currently NOT Apple M native?
Personally can’t think of single one…

Pro Tools is also not M1 native yet. as mentioned above. Race to the bottom to find out who comes in dead last.
