"i always used trackers ok i tried fruity and orion cubase a long time ago every time i go back to the good old tracker software Smile
you can see the note edit your drums easyer make better and faster songs
BUT that me "

i didn´t start it whit trackers, ..but whit other diferent sequencers .. but im getting very much into this now,and thats why i post the question, this week i´ve been try it a few ones, and starting to feel very confortable whit this kind of soft.. , and at the same time , enjoying it, .. renoise and madtracker impressed
me, i like both ,..but i think i wiil use renoise, its a little "heavier" here on my computer than madtraker, and thats the only thing that is "stressing me"... about aodix..looks very promissing too, ..a few more updates and it would be very good...
till now renoise got my vote...

Actually I didn't made any of those for quite a long time now. Most of them I've made about 10 years ago on Amiga 500 with Protracker and Amiga 1200 with Octamed. Now I'm just playing around with mods and other "classic" formats, nothing really released in public. Actually I've remixed theme song from Zool game in Reason not long ago, but Reason makes it offtopic here (although it still sounds pretty much "scene" ;))

Question...why would you use trackers if they are more difficult to program. Wouldnt it be just a waste of time if it makes the work flow go slower? I personally have seen trackers, have tried them, but never understood them, except for the usual mixer/effects part of them, but never the "piano roll". Whats the advantage of using a tracker over a regular, lets say, FL kindda piano roll?

Please enlighten me.

Say Nool,

Is using FruityLoops (through rewire) currently the only option to wrap buzz machines in a VST enviroment like EnergyXT or Tracktion?

It's just a matter of what you are used to/feel comfortable with, nothing more, nothing less.

Trackers users may tell you that they can throw a beat in a couple of seconds in a tracker and that it would take them several minutes on a piano roll.

The only true strength of tracker's pattern editors IMHO is the built-in track effects(especially arpeggios, retriggers and note/pitch slides)

Replying at his place: yes, since BuzzVST has never gone past the alpha status

Thanks for answering my question quincy and Odo.
Ideas are bulletproof... I am not.

At first glanse it looks like a tracker gives a lot more control over the midi stuff, but also a lot more complicated. I remember looking at it and getting a headache LOL. Kindda like creating a VSTi with SynthEdit and writing it in C++. I will give it one more try today when I get home and see what I can come up with.

HI

Like most things the Trackers we see today are far removed from the Trackers many of us Amiga/Atari heads had at our disposal 20 years ago - off course host programs like Logic/Cubase are also infinitely more complex as well.

There are very few programs for making music in these days that are instantly useable, the standard answer to any query about ANY program will tend to revolve around how dedicated you are to learning it, good documentation helps but this is not something the industry is very good at!

I see many Trackers under development at present and would be very happy to find one that I could settle into using - Trackers are a bit like looking at that 'MATRIX' screen - they just don't register with some people, but if they do I think they can be very, very productive - especially at triggering samples, I used to make some very nice 8bit sample based tunes with 2 dozen smallish (in memory) samples - pitching them all over the place.

Flipper.

Trackers can do some things that VERY few hosts can do, including any of the big boys.

For example, in renoise the concept of an instrument(in-built sampler or VSTi plugin) and the tracks it plays on are totally seperated.

So in other words i could play any one of my synths, samplers or drum machines etc through any track. This kind of flexibility (Aything->any FX chain) is pretty rare if you think about it.

i can very quickly load a drum loop, snap to fit the tempo (oldschool speed up/down method) and then play slices through any different set of FX on different tracks, or play simultaneous different slices at same time thru different compressors or whatever crazy crap i may care to think up.

I certinly think a lot of mainstream sequencer fans don't appreciate how much power you can have sampling wise with a tracker.

well it depends if u want to use buzzmachines within buzz there is an alternative

with the Polac VST wrapper

the reason for doing this would be that you can have a fabled piano roll with energyXT and that pure buzz modularity

but outside of buzz in another sequencer, i'm not sure, i don't use anything else :)

Madtracker is my absolute favourite. If you wanna know more about this tracker checkout my websitefor an extensive tutorial and additional links. You may also checkout my releases since they are all tracker based except the track "The bard" which is a midi production.

hmmm, I confess, the tracker I use most now is Modplug tracker - seems more stable in win98 than the others, but I am inspecting madtracker.

on a related note:
do you use vst's with trackers? I still don't. Just samples, and then maybe run the loooong waves through FL5 to master if need be.
..what goes around comes around..
