Not that I am saying people should just drop their plugin so completely, I do suggest that you continue using them with “caution” and perhaps keep your eye out for decent alternatives while slowly phasing them out.

With any luck it will be a just false alarm and they will start releasing new features and new plugins again. If not, at least you won’t be painting yourself into a corner.
These plugins have seemingly remained the same for over a decade. And now it looks like they were forced to get Catalina-ready, while passing on the cost of that to the customer, and listing new installers among scant other features.

As soon as i have to move up to Catalina, it'll cost me $60 to install it...and that ain't going to happen. I had lost faith in the developer adding any new features, already, but would have continued to use TP (I'd even have paid $10 - $15 for that continued compatibility). With this move, however, they've lost my trust.

For the moment I've decided to stick with separate plugins, especially as the included Logic EQ & Comp only need one click to instantiate (They also offer direct, in-line, visual feedback), sound great, and are very CPU light (Important for my 8-year-old laptop).

If I do tire of multiple window management, and once again yearn for a decent strip, then it'll be this baby:

There will always be these kind of changes to an underlying OS or DAW that will ultimately impact the compatibility of the plugins and/or software we use. Those changes will always become the burden of dev and most likely come at the financial expense of the end user.

However, the only alternative to this is to do absolutely nothing. If that were the case, then there would be no need to upgrade. To be honest, though, that's always an option a user can choose to take and it wont cost them anything extra, so it's not like they've taken that choice away. It's just the ideal choice for most people, especially when it comes down to just one developer with a very small list of never changing plugins.

Apple changed its OS because of privacy and security reasons. They're trying to make our data and personal info morse secure and a platform more resilient to viruses and malware. Thats hard to fault. It's put a lot of developers and users out, ultimately, though, it was a necessary change. We can only do our best to accomodate it, as can WaveArts.

The issue doesn't come because they want to charge for compatibility, a few devs have had to do that, it comes from how much they are charging versus what you get for it versus how secure do we feel about them as a deliver in general since their plugins have largely remained unchanged for 10-15 years.

From Bill:
"Scalable interface is the top feature on the list once I get MRS6 out the door. Those GUIs are really tiny on hi res monitors with 1:1 scaling."

BTW Trackplug upgrade from V5 is now around 25€, mostly bringing Mac compatibility, VST3 and little more... and dropping VST2 .. but maybe it's worth?

It's expensive and it doesn't even have dynamic EQ, which today is a must for a modern plugin of this type in my opinion. Hard pass for me 😶

Been looking forward to this for a very long time. Looks like some of my requests made it in.

The upgrade price makes it a no-brainer, but will demo first.

Cheers :tu:

Really enjoying the demo.

Tons of improvements, not found any devolution yet. Nice to see we can still enjoy the old 'adjusting the compressor controls, when you really meant to be adjusting the gate' episodes.

But that gate is still as good as ever. Combined with the new transient effects and the compressor, signals can get pretty surgically cut.
