I’m trying to decide between buying one of these to use in the Maschine and MPC software. I view Patchwork and Freestyle as “sub hosts” with better midi routing features. Both demos are good but I can’t decide. If anyone has any experience with either, please share your thoughts.

Freestyle's neat

the dev is reactive to support requests,
they fixed a couple of MIDI issues for me almost immediately
I wonder what I want in here
-my site is gone and music a mess

Wow, I wasn't even aware of the Freestyle product.

Seems like a good start. I need to try that.

Freestyle isn’t as capable as Patchwork. It supports less formats and on my system, it’s been pretty buggy since release. I would go Patchwork out of the two.

I think Freestyle is a fork of the JUCE host example,
it's a capable working of it, they attempt to help with any bug if user has patience

There's also Unify. I got Unify on sale, but so far it's excellent. Have to agree about Freestyle VS Patchworks but to be fair I have used a version for a couple years now. Back then it was a total mess on OS X.

I though Freestyle was a Kore clone (or something like that) and being a VST host isn't necessarily its main purpose in life.

I'd go with Patchwork because I like the color blue and I like cats. Also, I've never had an issue with their plugs and the dev seems very active and responsive.

You might also have a look at Kush Element and DDMF MetaPlug before deciding.
I started on Logic 5 with a PowerBook G4 550Mhz. I now have a MacBook Air M1 and it's ~165x faster! So, why is my music not proportionally better? :(
