On the other hand, if you work within a modular DAW like Bitwig, you can combine all these. Then Riffer or Stochas would be just another module that enhances what you get in your tool palette within lets say VCV. Then its not a vs. question, its simply cool to use all that together…
My recent new toy is Beat Scholar. There is no single module in VCV like it, but I don’t care, its easy to bring it into any modular…

I think it really depends on what you want to do with it. I bought the actual version 2 cause it seemed to be at least useable for some chord progression ideas (version 1 was not at all no matter what its naming was) and strums but if I want to do a quick sketch I always come back to instacomposer which is much better and complete in my opinion. A little strange that you cant use the expansions from one in the other even if they are only plain textfiles.

No, but I use Stepic with my hardware synths, I love it!
I cannot recommend it highly enough.

I have both and I agree. I had some cpu issues first version and notified the company early August. I sent what I had off to the company and I found them to be very responsive. Because of this thread I downloaded the latest version and my cpu issues are gone. I like it for quick ideas and to jam to. And it's on sale right now. In fairness though they have sales often so...

I had a close look at Stepic when it was released but decided the HY-SEQ32 has much the same functionality although presented differently. So I did not buy Stepic as I have HY-SEQ32. But Stepic is very attractive as the workflow looks pretty good.

Strokes looks a bit different going by the video and manual. I am not sure it would suit me, might get it if it goes on sale but lack of demo holds me back as I did not like the demo video music much
