RapidComposer v4.5b5 is available!

Mainly bug fixes in this update. In the next few weeks the long-awaited feature, CC assignment and editing will be implemented for notes and phrases.

Improvements:

• All chord rules menus are refreshed when adding or removing a rule
• Removed obsolete plug-in setting "Open RapidComposer in a separate window"
• Fixed: timeline zoom works well when the Idea Tool is open
• Fixed crash when using "Join With Next Line" in certain conditions
• Fixed instrument preview stability issues in the instrument browser
• Fixed deadlock in the structure menu when using VSTi plug-ins
• Chord progression rules are not restored when RapidComposer starts if the setting "Reset Phrase Editor, MIDI Mutator and Chord Rules Editor for New Composition" is enabled

Nicely fixed!

I will make a minor suggestion for somewhere up-the-road that if the entire left-side (non timeline area) of the Idea Tool could be collapsed and reopened at will it would be useful because this would allow us to a) set and reset the IT configs when/as desired, or b) alternatively choose a maximized real-estate view of the timeline area with its chord symbols, phrases, etc. in order to see the effects of repeated IT regeneration.

The workflow choice box and "master" lightning being entirely above both areas and thus always accessible, I think this could work out very nicely for maximally convenient and rapid selection, regeneration, and inspection, in particular once we can select a specific timeline areas as the regeneration target.

anyone try using RC as a VST yet (beta 4.5b5)?

Only issue I have so far is when you first add it in Reaper, if you drag it out to make it bigger, the UI isn't painting correctly. It corrects if you close the FX window and re-open it..

Hi Gene. I tried to reproduce this:
Using RapidComposer v4.5b4 and Reaper v6.68 Windows 10

1. Added track to Reaper then added RC as Vsti onto track (worked as expected incl resizing).
2. Deleted the track and then tried to add RC as Vsti by right clicking and adding virtual instrument. Chose RC and Reaper crashed although momentarily, RC had red window artefact.

I also tried this the other way around and it is at the second attempt to add RC (after removing the first) which crashes, irrespective of how the vsti is added.

Not quite what you described and not a common scenario in my case but something in there:

Ok, that was beta 4, can you grab beta 5 and try it? What is you graphics card?
I'm using an NVidia 8 gig.. GTX-1070

I am sorry, I am fixing this embarrassing crash.
Strangely window resizing works well in REAPER v6.64. I'll update to the latest version and will see if something changed.

Card is NVIDIA GeForce GT 710 PCI Express
Video Memory = 2Gb

Will you watch this short video (GIF) I made and tell me why resizing works on my PC with the same REAPER and RC versions (on Windows 10)? I cannot find an explanation for why the same does not work for you:

Ok, I watched your video and I have no clue.. This only happens the first time I load RC into Reaper.. latest version of Reaper.. and the beta 6 version of RC.

chord generator using ALL the chord notes now by default? Maybe allow this to be a setting on which ones to use by default?

This is indeed strange. I am trying to reproduce this. Please note that the primary way to resizing the window is dragging the small resize handle (just like in the standalone application):



Resizing the host window may or may not work. This is a neglected area in all plug-in APIs and a source of many resizing issues. RC must monitor the parent window size, and if that changes, it resizes the UI. This is not as easy as it sounds because (like in REAPER) the RC plug-in window is placed at an offset inside the parent window, so the two windows are not the same size.

Also, (and this may fix your issues) the "Render driver" setting is not hidden anymore under Settings / User Interface / Rendering:



You may want to set it to direct3d11 and restart RC. By default it chooses direct3d9 because some direct3d11 drivers are buggy.

when it first loads, that corner is not visible to drag on.. watch the video again and pause right before I drag the window..


edit: oops, it is visible and when I drag on that, it is worse.. I'll try all available render settings too.. also, I did update my video drivers this morning..
