So has the full changelog (including bug fixes) been released yet?

Don't know, don't care.
With v6 that may change, now that we can see effect mini-views for 3rd party plugins. I tried it this morning and it works a treat. It will probably lead to me using more inserts and relying less on on-board effects over time.
It's the flipping back and forth that I try to avoid. I have found that having that one, constant overview makes the whole process more fluid.jamcat wrote: Wed Oct 05, 2022 11:36 pmI just separate the mix into different "sessions" which keeps things clean, logical and organized.
Not for me. As I add parts, I make sure they work well together with what's already there. I don't really have any fixed idea of what a song will need, that's something that I work out as I build the arrangement. By the time I feel like I have all the parts I need, the mix is already 95% done. And from there, I will do a lot more tweaking of instruments than of the mix itself. I am also much more likely to swap one instrument for another than I am to change anything in the mixer. The process and mindset of tracking is quite different than mixing.
As opposed to sounding like what? This keeps it sounding "like a record."
If you choose your sounds well, the need for that should be minimal. But most of the work I do on my drums isn't about levels or EQ, it's more about choosing samples and playing with the decay. Also, you said yourself that you group your drum channels, so you're doing the same thing.I would make the same argument you just made here. You're walling yourself off from your drum mix by keeping it tucked away inside of a plugin. I could never stand that. I need to have access to each channel in my mixer. A lot of that has to do with wanting to pan and mix the drums directly, add Pultecs and 1176s and whatnot to different channels, and send just the snare to a plate reverb, etc.
That's kind of my point - you make things so complicated that you literally can't take it all in at once. I keep it all simple enough that it's easy to grok everything that's going on at a glance. That way I can see and fix problems in the right spot, rather than trying to do wherever it is that I happen to notice the problem. That's actually what has led me to this new paradigm of using very few effects - if I fix problems at source, then I don't need to add an effect to do it "at mixing time".I see it as the opposite. I'm the kind of person who won't see something in the cupboard that's right in front of me. So if I'm working only on drums for the moment, it's much easier to find the track I'm looking for if all the others are hidden. It actually helps keep me focused on the task at hand.

I disagree. Unless you think your process is perfect, you should always be willing to adapt and change if you find a better way. My process today is unrecognisable from the way I worked 10 years ago, yet if I listen to our 2009 album, it still sounds great to my ears. If I re-did those mixes today, they'd come out completely differently. I don't know if they'd be better or worse but they'd definitely sound quite different.Really I think that creating a philosophy and routine and sticking with that workflow, whatever it is, is the most important thing. It's not really about the specific process. It's really just about having a process.

Anyway, I finally got around to installing Artist v6 this morning and I can report that it's basically the same as it ever was. I thought the pop-out mixer channel view would be useless but I can see now that it might be very handy when you have a decent effects chain going.
My favourite thing so far, though, is the mini-view for 3rd party effects. I tried a couple of things and they just worked. I often choose native effects over other plugins purely on the basis of being able to tweak them directly from the Mixer so this is huge for me.
I only had about 20 minutes to play this morning, thanks to having to reinstall my Audient drivers after last night's OS update (to 22H2), but it looks quite promising so far. I can't wait to try out the dynamic EQ on some vocal tracks I've been working on. That's going to be a whole new thing for me.

Does Mix FX route through the inserts on each track then? I presumed any crosstalk was post inserts, pre fader. Must admit I've not really paid a lot of attention.jamcat wrote: Wed Oct 05, 2022 8:18 pmThis way I see just the one I want and not both. (There are actually technical reasons why you need to isolate ampsims when working with Mix FX, otherwise you wind up with drums and vocals coming out of your guitar amp.)

It does, yes. But I no longer work on it.jamcat wrote: Tue Oct 04, 2022 8:51 pm Hey Lawrence!
Does Track Colors Toolbar v2 work with Studio One 6?
I gave the source code to another guy at 2.0 or so because I was happy with it as it was, but others wanted it to do more, and I didn't want to bother trying to fill everyone's various feature requests for a free add-on.

After a few days, I can say, I like a new look a lot. Very clean. I have disabled many stuff that I do not use. Tracks presets works well. It feels like Logic Pro a lot now, but in a good way. Feature wise S1 way ahead of Logic Pro, for my needs.

Crosstalk happens at the top of the channel, before inserts. What I do to wall off channels from crosstalk, such as ampsim channels, is I create an FX channel that I set as the destination, with the volume set to -inf. I then create a group channel and send the ampsim channel to it through an aux send.skijumptoes wrote: Thu Oct 06, 2022 8:55 amDoes Mix FX route through the inserts on each track then? The group channel I send to will be in the crosstalk stream, but the original ampsim channel won’t be, because crosstalk is not passed through FX channels. The FX channel acts as a crosstalk barrier to any channel routed to it. Since I’m sending to the group channel, it is parallel to the original channel, so crosstalk is not handed down to the originating channel via Passthrough as it would be if the group channel was the destination.
Since I use the FX channel as a dead end, I will route every channel I want to wall off to a single FX channel.
The reason for sending to a group channel and making the FX channel a dead end, instead of just routing to an FX channel is because FX channels didn’t have sends until version 6, so you wouldn’t be able to send your amp channel to a reverb or harmonizer, etc, when routed to an FX channel. The group channel was only used for more flexibility.
But now with version 6 you can do the same thing without sending to a group, and just use the FX channel as you would the group channel.
Solving the ampsim crosstalk issue was actually the origin of my “tracking” and “mixing” console setup. I now put every source track in the “tracking” console with a tape plugin as the last insert. The FX channel destination keeps crosstalk out of the pre-tape signal, too.

Interesting read, thanks for spending the time explaining this. I will try myself later.jamcat wrote: Thu Oct 06, 2022 3:18 pmSolving the ampsim crosstalk issue was actually the origin of my “tracking” and “mixing” console setup. There is one clarification I should make. Group channels only behave differently than FX channels when Passthrough is ON. If you have Passthrough OFF, then crosstalk is not passed down to the channels routed to the group. FX channels don't ever pass through.
So if you don't use Passthrough, you can route directly to a group in a 1:1 relationship, no need to use sends. Or if you are using Studio One 6, you can route directly to an FX channel in a 1:1 relationship, regardless of whether you are using Passthrough for groups.
