They changed the nature of the update plan mid stream, changed the wording on their site to fit the new "plan", they sold people one thing and then delivered something completely different. That anyone would defend that is just weird.chk071 wrote: Fri Oct 07, 2022 3:20 pmI think it's weirder that some project their own viewpoints onto others, and think that everyone has to think their way.
I also think that it's weird to talk about "dirty business ethics" in a business which is mainly driven by passion. Trust me, if you want to make the big bucks, the audio software business is one of the least attractive ones.
Especially true for Bitwig. They're not really big.
The amount of passion a person has is in no way proportionate to the amount of ethics they have, this is an absurd take. Especially from a musician. As you should well know plenty of starving artists will rip you off, disregard your feelings and bloviate about their own "art".

Hey,
Without being prejudiced, the only alternative to Bitwig comes from Bitwig creators - Ableton Live

Bitwig is a company, aka an entity dedicated to making money. If its behavior offends you, then stop buying and using the product. Simple. If you don't care, or love Bitwig too much to quit, then keep using it.
If modular design is a thing with you, take a look at Jo's Mulab. Live is not the only alternative to Bitwig.
Bitwig has never addressed my issues with it, so it's not a big deal for me. But it does seem like they altered course in a way that was guaranteed to piss people off. As a company, they're pretty adept at that.

They have Just Released 4.3.10 which removes that Shareware Bubble.apoclypse wrote: Fri Oct 07, 2022 1:26 pmI don't care I they sell add-ons but to nag users to update to only nag them that their version Bitwig doesn't have the right license to install all the content is not great.dellboy wrote: Fri Oct 07, 2022 11:29 am As a non Bitwig user the solution to this problem seems very simple and obvious. All current contracts should be honored by giving each current license owner the spectral thingy for free, and any new gadgets that come out during there current contract period. And Bitwig should send an email to all current contract license holders informing them of the change to there new terms and conditions. People can then decide if they want to renew the contract or not. It will then all blow over and peace will be restored.

Well.. let's not confuse a few single individuals on forums with the majority of users.jens wrote: Fri Oct 07, 2022 4:07 pm Going by the reactions Bitwig now have to find out they're not Apple the hard way.![]()

Yes, they probably will but how much will it cost?pdxindy wrote: Thu Oct 06, 2022 5:36 pmBitwig will add Midi Comping...machinesworking wrote: Thu Oct 06, 2022 5:14 pm
I don’t agree, MIDI comping is better than what Bitwig did, it’s an extra step to use something comped in the Clips window I don’t lose sleep over it. I want comping to get the best parts, MIDI is included in this.
Could be free, could be $80 or anything inbetween or above.
I don't know and thats the problem that they caused themselves.
I used to expect, based on past performance that everything they did was included in the price i paid each year but now i can no longer expect that.
As much as i love bitwig, i wont do business with any company when i dont know what i am getting for my money.
Mac mini m4 pro, Reaper, too many plugins, Modal Argon8, Novation Circuit Mono Station and now a lovely Waldorf Blofeld.

Yes, they made a problem for themselves. And my response to it is much the same as yours.Kypresso wrote: Fri Oct 07, 2022 5:31 pmYes, they probably will but how much will it cost?

Midi Comping however, will not be an Add-on.

To truly avoid confusion, first you have to define the size of the Bitwig user base. A few hundred, a few thousand, tens of thousands?
Then you have to be able to accurately count the number of people who are upset by the latest move...including those who haven't commented on forums or Facebook or Twitter or haven't made YouTube videos etc etc but will none the less leave Bitwig or refuse to pay for the update plan going forward.
Once you get those accurate numbers you'll be able to determine what constitutes "the majority of users" and be able to tell if this whole thing will result in nothing more than a flesh wound to BW or will it be a near fatal blow.
Since it's impossible for any of us to get those accurate numbers we're all just "individuals on forums".
None are so hopelessly enslaved as those who falsely believe they are free. Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

No, forums or social media never have been a measure of anything. On the contrary, they're often hoarding the moaners and complainers. Where else can they moan and complain all that they want?
