Continuing on the same topic, the UF80 that finally bit the dust after 15 years of use was sadly put to rest. I've downsized from 88 keys to the 3 octaves on the springy Opsix. I had such a negative idea of how bad the keys would be that I was pleasantly surprised, and well, they'll get the job done until I find a better option.
Plastic covers everywhere for the energetic Tango. I've gotten him a special place nearby now with a ball track that keeps him entertained while I work. He's warming up to it and spending less time climbing on slanted gear (to get my attention).

Honestly, they look cool but unfortunately both are sort-of let-downs. The desk is from Output. The wood is not solid and the topside of the desk bows as I have always been an elbows-on-desk kind of guy.
I’ve never owned a manufactured desk that couldn’t support my weight standing on it, and this I’ve only partially put my weight on the desk and could tell it wasn’t safe. Aside from that, it’s functional.

I'd been considering an Output desk (despite the ridiculous price) but if they're as bad quality as you suggest I'll stick with my (free) Ikea desk.elxsound wrote: Mon Oct 10, 2022 1:43 pmHonestly, they look cool but unfortunately both are sort-of let-downs. I couldn't recommend it. I wish I could because it does look nice but for the price, it really should be stronger.thecontrolcentre wrote: Mon Oct 10, 2022 11:45 pmI'd been considering an Output desk (despite the ridiculous price) but if they're as bad quality as you suggest I'll stick with my (free) Ikea desk.elxsound wrote: Mon Oct 10, 2022 1:43 pmHonestly, they look cool but unfortunately both are sort-of let-downs. Even relatively thick wood would bend eventually in the same situation as the desk. You can bend it back if you take it apart. Likely you could find something to support it in the middle. It seems not the greatest design, tbf a really high quality sturdy desk made out of nice wood could easily cost $6-12k or more.

They cheapened out though… it’s not just that’s it’s plywood, but on the desktop, from the front it looks thick, but there’s a lip making it look 1.25” but it’s really .75” in thickness (the depth of that lip is only 1.25”).pekbro wrote: Tue Oct 11, 2022 1:01 am Even relatively thick wood would bend eventually in the same situation as the desk. Then there’s the front legs, also .75” in thickness (everything is plywood) that also bow. The rear legs are 1.25” which is great, but why not do the same to the front?
I actually figured the legs would bow a bit before purchasing but was hoping I’d be wrong.
It all could be stronger and yes, I could add more to reinforce it, but its seems it could have been shipped with that in place. It’s not the end of the world but my IKEA furniture is stronger… but not even that Swedish House Mafia collab has as much functionality.

Yeah, the only thing they made that looked sturdy enough to me was the speaker stands.elxsound wrote: Tue Oct 11, 2022 1:45 amThey cheapened out though… it’s not just that’s it’s plywood, but on the desktop, from the front it looks thick, but there’s a lip making it look 1.25” but it’s really .75” in thickness (the depth of that lip is only 1.25”).pekbro wrote: Tue Oct 11, 2022 1:01 am Even relatively thick wood would bend eventually in the same situation as the desk. I would have tried to copy them, but I don't have any welding equipment.
Still it's better than my Saunders pressboard desk. I need to break down and build one someday,
though thats still a pretty expensive proposition these days.

You want some pine from Maine? My neighbor got a mill
I wish I had of saved a lot of the pines that fell 5 years ago, literally this week because I would love to do my studio in knotty pine, even better would be pine from such a thing and from my land. I fear now it's just been too long, they're all still lying about in the woods (some about 15" in dia). There is a lumber chain here that only uses wood harvested in Maine, one is in the next town over (my next Hink presents will be a compressor and nail gun set).
The studio's future has been uncertain during this time of work on the house, as of two weeks ago it was going to be Holly's office and I would takeover the sunroom for now. Now Holly wants the sunroom so my studio stays put, here the studio is the google earth yellow lines on my roof (roughly) and the red is the sunroom (all that is getting torn down eventually and rebuilt). There is a doorway between my living room and studio (as well as the regular door to the room off the hall), it is covered with a sliding bookcase
I like the studio where it is because that section off the front is the mudroom cat room, the room really is just the cat box and a big storm door they can watch the birds from when its warm. That room is also home to several amps and speakers, there is a little bit of shared wall with the studio to which I have the parts to put panels if needed...mics, whatever because the room is great for miking guitar cabs. (also a drumkit would fit, but how likely in this day) So I am happy keeping it where it is.
Technology things change, my old machine is getting retired, I am not buying nor building a new machine for just my studio, Holly owns a tax prep and investment company, her IT company is making the drive up here (90 minutes for them, plus the best seafood in the country
) and well, my needs are going to be more than met but the question at this point is how. We're gonna be like an office building (yup, I am soon to be getting some internet speed updates too, for her business). So it might end up a desktop of my own, a laptop or tied with everything else in which my needs will be met...I do know new stuffs for all of us in the house (she is semi retiring, she will no longer have a staff who will need a station). I told the dude what I did, what I have, what I want and it will be in the contract...ftr this is boggling my mind....it seems, now hear me out because it might be the 200mg drink I had with a joint, but I think I might actually be able to only worry about using my studio machine, maintaining it will no longer be a thing...put that in your pipe and smoke it
The downside is I can no longer use the living room as a live room, not that I did much
Subject to change btw, in which case I am designing a room.
Here are the most recent pics of it now...note no matter what the granny wall paper is gone

that's the doorway with now the sliding bookcase and those shelves now face the other way
edit: on either side of the doorway are white panels like the one on the left, on the other side are shelves, those shelves now are in the studio and the panels in the other room. (I had in backwards in my mind
)

The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another's world. It requires profound, purpose‐larger‐than‐the‐self kind of understanding.

he will grow out of that soon enough, when bandit first came, i didn't get a minute without him either climbing all over everything or finding something he shouldn't be chewing, to chew on.elxsound wrote: Sat Oct 08, 2022 3:15 am Continuing on the same topic, the UF80 that finally bit the dust after 15 years of use was sadly put to rest. now he pops in to see me ocassionally, gets a quick stroke then buggers off to find something soft to lie on.
about a year old, he will be a lot more independent.

I think I’ll miss it. This little guy’s neediness is too cute and then a bit too much at the same time but I’m gonna miss it.vurt wrote: Tue Oct 11, 2022 3:22 pmhe will grow out of that soon enough, when bandit first came, i didn't get a minute without him either climbing all over everything or finding something he shouldn't be chewing, to chew on.elxsound wrote: Sat Oct 08, 2022 3:15 am Continuing on the same topic, the UF80 that finally bit the dust after 15 years of use was sadly put to rest. The missus will definitely miss it. We left him by himself on Sunday for just 7 hours and he’s been super needy since. He won’t leave our sides and gets conflicted when we’re in separate rooms.

Orion likes to be in the highest space he can find, so I always make sure that there is an easy path for him, to the top of my racks. He also has a bed on top of the subwoofer, since he likes to chill there sometimes. He's well beyond the kitten stage but he can still be very needy sometimes. If I spend too much time standing up, he'll insist on sitting on my lap for a bit, I think just to keep me from moving around so much.

I was reading that as they get older they prefer higher spaces. We don't really have a spot for him up high, but I'm hoping next year or latest, 2024, we're somewhere different. Hopefully, by then we'll have some climbing spaces for him.justin3am wrote: Tue Oct 11, 2022 3:38 pm Orion likes to be in the highest space he can find, so I always make sure that there is an easy path for him, to the top of my racks. This guy is not a lapcat but he's getting closer and closer, so maybe in the future? Or maybe in the winter?
