Instead of voting with their wallet,
Surely thats the point. They did vote with their wallet and bought the product, and now they want what they bought. How will not buying it again in the future fix what has already happened?

What did they buy? Or what do they think they bought?

As I mentioned earlier, user or license agreements are subject to change, they have to. There could be totally new and revamped laws tomorrow, which a company has to apply to. Or business models which don't work have to be changed.

I know that it's not nice for customers, and I know that it will piss some people off. The best is to stay away from the software if you're not OK with it or the company, instead of buying in again. I see a lot of the latter by people who act as if the company in question robbed them of everything they have.

It’s nothing like that.

It’s more like if you bought a Pinto with a promise of free service for life, and the first time you took it in they charged you $200 for an oil change.

I don't know any car dealer which offers free service for life though. Just like with Bitwig, that doesn't really seem like a business model which works for most companies.

I'd forgotten resellers would also be getting some of the flak from customers and passing on the love to Bitwig.

Question is whether Bitwig just Kwasi Kwarteng it further down the drain or admit they made a big mistake and quietly shuffle it into the free updates. I don't think some discount voucher shit will play well if they try that route.

* Pinch of salt on this quote as there's no proof it actually came from someone at PB
Wait what???

Did not chk071 inform us in no uncertain terms that all this whining here was basically just a bunch of compulsive moaners with no actual relevance to Bitwig's business whatsoever? I don't get it... :?
(Especially since all his posts are really smart and insightful :hihi:)

I am not a Bitwig customer, and from a casual reading it appears that they were offered free updates of all software that was released for a year following purchase. The odd thing is that the quantity and quality of the updates were never specified. "Updates" indicates plural, and if they had given just two or three minor updates it would have satisfied Bitwigs legal obligation.

I don't see anything in there which would contradict what I said. It's always the moaners who are especially vocal (naturally).

Anyway, it's an email from a third party vendor, which was posted on Reddit. To put things in perspective.

What perspective?
Brzzzzzzt.

The perspective that... it's an email from a third party vendor, which was posted on Reddit. ;)

If there's nothing official from Bitwig, posted on their site, or in an email to their customers, pinch of salt etc.

I really dont get why people dont seem to understand what this is really about.
I think BW customers have strong arguments:
1) An already expensive product in regard of the upgrade plan costs.
2) Add-ons which can be counted as integral features.

What I find sad is that it seemingly needs a mob driven shitstorm as normal occurrence in these days of the internet. :(

Y'all happy yet?

So Bitwig did the right thing to make their customers happy. Well done Bitwig.

Try a real world example: Buy a Kia and you get 7 years warranty. If you had an issue after five and took it the dealer to be told "ah, we changed that, too expensive for us so we changed it. You understand this happens". You wouldn't accept it. You signed an agrrement with them, same with a EULA. They may change it for new users but an agreement is legally standing however you want to wave it away.

Hats off, they listened and did the right thing in less than a week. Hope they’re ok going forwards as there must be a reason they tried such a blatant cash grab.

Are you safe?

Well done Bitwig???

Let us reflect the situation just a second...

The most people with a current upgrade plan have purchased that plan under the previous EULA which stated explicitly the upgrade plan includes all software updates including Addons, which the spectral suite was categorized as...
They violated their own EULA and therefore the contract with all these upgrade users because of greed and thought they will get away with it...
Now they got caught and tell their apologizes and doing nothing else than keeping to their contract which should have been normal behaviour for every company, give the money back they have stolen and your reaction is "Well done!" ???

I don´t know how your sense of justice is developed but please try the following...(of course do not!!)...
Go and rob a bank... when you get caught you say..."Oh, sorry... this was just a mistake... I offer you to give the money back and then everything is fine, isn´t it?"

Finally look at the smiling faces when they close the prison door behind you and think again about how well this was done...
