Not overrated in my opinion. Great plugins which get the job done fast and easy.
I use Little Microshift, Little Plate, Devil-Loc and Sie-Q all the time.
VST3 is on the way..I can't complain

I don’t have any Soundtoys plugins. I own absolutely everything from Eventide, though.

Soundtoys always seemed like designer imposter plugins to me.

Eventide always seemed to have no idea what to charge for their plugins from one week to the next, I might buy some when they settle on a realistic price.

What’s a ‘designer imposter plugin’?

Actually on second thoughts I don’t care.

ST are great. I don’t overrate them, I rate them absolutely correctly.

I can only assume that means, "SoundToys was founded by former Eventide engineers, making very similar plugins to existing Eventide algorithms". But if that's the case, 1) SoundToys has lots of stuff where I don't see a comparable Eventide plugin, 2) at the time, Eventide wasn't in the plugin game, and 3) more than one company can release similar products.

I think your assigning too much depth to the comment…

What does this even mean?

To answer the OP, no, they are not over-rated. They're very very good, but probably need a GUI overhaul, even if it's just to make them scalable
I wonder what happens if I press this button...

“Designer imposter” is a term that came about in the 1980s for retail knockoffs of designer brands of clothes, shoes, handbags, fragrances.

Soundtoys always seemed to be an Eventide imposter.

Exactly my opinion :tu:

‘Designer imposter’ on Google links to a whole page off fragrance results…

Lame attempt at dissing ST smells like bullshit to me.

You don’t own any ST ? Probably best for all concerned.

IMO the collection is definitely worth having, and it's pretty easy to pick it up cheap. They are currently
porting to VST3 so it's not like they are doing nothing with them. The Eventide bundle is good too, for me
it's nice to have both collections. I use and like them both quite a lot.

I had the whole bunch of Soundtoys, eventually sold them and never regretted.

Not imposters. Soundtoys founders were the designers for some of Eventide's best-known products, like the H3000.

Ironic anecdote regarding 'imposters' : original name of SoundToys was Crescent Engineering, who started off making mods for the H3000. Eventide eventually licensed those mods to sell themselves. So Eventide are SoundToys imposters.
