Even though extensively revised, ThrillseekerVBL remains true to its credo and combines musical gain-riding and thrilling distortion. The mkII version improves both the user experience and its technical implementation, giving more sonic control and a versatile sound. Being able to reproduce quite a range of tonalities now, ThrillseekerVBL has become a true tonebox that can deliver Variable-Mu style tube compression whether soft and mellow or punchy and raw.

The mkII update is available for Windows VST in 32 and 64bit as freeware. Download your copy here.

What is musical gain riding?

Adjustments to gain that fit the movement of the input signal in a musically pleasing manner.

Just after quick spin, this thing is monster! Sounds amazing, very natural - Im really impressed. I mean it, amazing job!

But although I have input/output linked, it seem to not work - or maybe its some mistake on my side - need to play with it longer, but absolutely loving it! Along with new Tesla PRO and ThrillseekerXTC its top notch tool!

I have the exact same feeling. also when not linked, output levels does not seem to correspond to the real world (ie. -3dB of trim will not result in a straight -3dB of trim. couldn't wrap my head around this...)

Post

You can fine tune the output and still keep the input linked with it (one-way link from gain to output) to keep up with your gain staging. Ran it on couple of old skool rap tune mastering sessions and sounded just excellent on those.

Sounds amazing

True that, works perfectly with this type of music!

Meh.

I've never gotten the love for Bootsy's plugins. I've always felt they were more hype than substance.

All but one of them of them have been 3D plugins for me....Download, Demo, and Delete.

But some people like them so for that I am grateful to him for his contributions to the community. :tu:

What are the fx plugins you like to use for analogue mojo in the box?

I WAS in the same position. I vividly remember that some his plugins did nothing of significance.

Not anymore.

I don't know if it's me moving to 96kHz or me starting to process EVERTHING at (roughly) -23dBFS.

One has to be deaf not to hear the outcome.

For example : TesslaPro Mk I/II was doing for me absolutely NOTHING, no matter how I'd tweak it. now, TesslaPRO MkIII does EVERYTHING UPON INSERTING, without me moving a single knob.
insert, enjoy the the subtle - but totally discernible ! - difference.... and move on. I call it "the Brauer experience". not "Brauerize", mind you... it stems from a video he made about his studio HW gear whereupon he was talking about a certain HW of his - can't remember which - which HE HAVE'NT TOUCHED SINCE SATISFASORY results with it were being conceived, many YEARS AGO. and this is what it's all about, I think - having a tool that you insert, achieve a great result without even touching it... and move on.

I must admit that as of yet I haven't figured out its gain staging - it is obscure IMO - ... but the processing it impart is just there (for me)... throw a clipper upon these two (in my case stdClip)... your in for a treat. and a smooth as a butter one.

2nd what you've said about teslaPRO - amazing piece, just like both thrillseekers - MOJO in Thrillseeker XTC is just "wow" in what it does. No idea what is it doing exactly, I dont even watn to. It works great when you need it. Using it a lot on sampled drums.

True about gain staging - I found myself using LetiMix Gainmatch plugin a lot with VoS plugins.

You are posting this in every VoS thread. Not tired yet? What is the point of this meaningful post? Is that your own contribution?

I don't. "Analogue Mojo" is not something I care about. I've worked with analog hardware and it holds no mojo for me.

I downloaded the newly released plugin, gave it a fair try as I have done with all of his plugins and found it to be just as uninspiring (to me) as all but one of his other plugins (some reverb I don't even remember).

Then I said "I am grateful to him for his contributions to the community" even though the plugin is not for me.

I gave my honest opinion. That was my contribution. If only positive opinions are allowed then this ceases to be a discussion forum.

I know VOS plugins have reached cult status but I've just never been a member of that cult. Sorry if that offends anyone.

Perhaps it's because I have a folder full of high quality effects plugins that I do like so finding a place among them is not easy these days.

But if you like the plugin then by all means use it and enjoy it....... :tu:
