I have heard a lot about the book by Bob Katz but not much about anything else. I am probably going to get Bob's book but are the any other similar quality (or even better) alternatives?

don't know for sure, but I think a nice pdf about mastering comes with the izotope ozone demo..

Thanks for the info. There is not much info on "The Mastering Engineer's Handbook" which is unfortunate. The only one I have heard good (or any) news about is the Bob Katz one. It would be nice to have a bit of info before buying.

I am downloading the Ozone pdf. It looks like it is specific to Ozone but hopefully includes some info that can be applied to any mastering tools.

as from what ive heard from some people in the industry the bob katz one is the one!
i myself keep meaning to buy it,oh well better get me a job first

That is my experience. Probably can't hurt to have it even if there is better.
