Question about some PA speakers I bought

The brand is Stagehand. The backplate says manufactured in USA, serial number 003277. There's no brand name on the fronts, or anything printed. Anyone ever heard of these? I got them for $40 for outdoor performance. The don't have any way to attach to speaker stands, but they get real loud. I think they're old, and there is a little noise floor with them. There's a knob on the back of each speaker, indicating "Audio Level" with Min and Max. Strange to see on passive speakers. They knobs need cleaning I think. That's all I know about them.

It's common to see a level control for piezo tweeters. That would also explain the noise. There's not much there to go on TBH. Take a picture.

Yeah, they look like cheap old PA speakers that could have been made almost anytime in the last 35 years or so. I'm guessing the level knob just controls the tweeter, does it?Moe Shinola wrote: Sun Oct 16, 2022 4:20 am Here's the page that just has all of them

I guess what I'm saying is that there's not much more to say than that. You paid a reasonable price for them. If you have no speakers, it's a pretty good price, if you have good speakers, it's a waste of $40.

I don't know what the knob controls, but I think you are right. Yep, ya gets what ya pays for!ghettosynth wrote: Sun Oct 16, 2022 4:30 amYeah, they look like cheap old PA speakers that could have been made almost anytime in the last 35 years or so. Turn it up and down while the music is playing through a speaker. If the woofer still woofs but the highs go away, then it controls the tweeter. If the woofer stops woofing then it controls the overall sound, rather pointless IMO, if nothing changes either the control or the tweeter may not be working properly. IF those are old piezo tweeters, they have a limited shelf life and eventually give up the ghost.Moe Shinola wrote: Sun Oct 16, 2022 4:34 amI don't know what the knob controls, but I think you are right.
